Had lower back pain for a while post an injury 5 years ago - can't go on rides or jogging etc.

Anyhow my back physio has said that i need to work on my posture and stand/sit more up-right so my muscles work against gravity.

Typically i would say my spasm pain probably happens once a day - since adopting new posture over the last couple of days the spasm feels worse when i bend over slightly.

Is this a normal part of rehab? I won't see my physio again for 6 weeks so unable to ask him the question.

Thanks.

Same here, the more you strengthen the muscles the easier correcting posture will be. Try to stand/sit straight all the time without a strong core will probably make your back pain worse as the back muscles will compensate for weak core muscles. It was something like that my PT told me.

Have you tried the 'lunge' position? Can be very helpful for a lower back.

See 'back stabilisation exercise' graphic on this site.

As a fellow sufferer (also through injury) I sympathise. Tucking your bum in when you stand or walk, rolling your ankles out when you stand, flexing your knees a bit when you stand.... Are all things to try!

I've just started pilates mainly for helping with running injuries, but it is supposed to be good for your back. Quite a few of the exercises are what I have been told to do, but never did to help with back ache. You end up doing the exercises properly if someone is there making you do it and you have paid them rather than doing it at home and getting distracted. The view is also much better...
