What have I done to my leg/hip?
Discussion
As above; my left leg hurts when I raise it when standing (like a knees raise) to climb over lungs or take high steps, or when I do leg raises (on my back on the floor) as abs exercises. So when I put my kecks on in the morning bloody hurts!
The pain is from the front of the hip down the inner thigh, although I can get aching aft exercise on the outer front part of the hip.
I am aware of it when I run, but it is more of a discomfort than pain.
I had a hip replacement just under two years ago, and all has been fine, although I think that I was aware or some minor discomfort in that region. But my recovery was excellent and I was back cycling and skiing again about 6 months later.
I will be going to see my GP, but due to work patterns and the non-emergency nature of this it is likely to be about 10 days before my visit.
Does any medic or physio out there have any idea or advice to give? At first I thought it was a pull of, possibly, my psoas. But I have been trying stretching and strengthening exercises I found and don't seem to have gained any benefit.
Should I be resting it, in terms of no formal exercise, for a couple of months? Or strengthening it in some way? Or might it be in some way caused by the hip replacement back in July 2011?
It's damned irritating as I am just getting to grips with forefoot strike running and looking at doing a 10k next month, but have a sneaking suspicion that I need to put everything on bloody hold again.
TIA

I had a similar pain a few years back after trying an elaborate stepover playing football. Struggled to raise my thigh, and a stabbing pain feeling like a knitting needle up into my groin. After failed physio, I had MRI scans and dye injected. It was traced to damage cartlidge on my hip socket. This was 'catching' when I moved my leg, and was agony.
The consultants opinion was my hip may had slightly dislocated when younger, apparently a common problem, leading to damage that manifested as I got older. The operation proposed involved dislocating the hip, wedging it open and the hip 'cup' being trimmed. However, it wasn't guaranteed to work, and involved 6 weeks off work and 6 months physio. I decided against it, and rested for 6 months, with cycling being my only exercise. I can still feel it now, but I know how to manage it . Good luck!
