I fear I may be treading a fine line on coca-cola addiction. Started with one or two cans a day and now I have to have a 2litre bottle a day just to get a taste. I sometimes when at work go for weeks without and don't miss it but as soon as I get home I want a drink of coca-cola.

Anybody else faced the same and how did you beat it?????

Didn't someone due last week due to kidney failure from drinking way too much cola?

If you see what the stuff does to dirty coins and other metals, you wouldn't touch the stuff.

Is it the caffeine you need, or the coke itself? Have you tried coffee instead?

Seriously though, 2L of coke is a lot of sugar...

I am fully addicted to Pepsi Max. I will drink a 2litre bottle a day if not slightly more.

You can tell the 'addiction' part as I actually look forward to opening the bottle: the sound of the cap bursting open and the initial smell of the fresh Pepsi.

Really not good for you, and I need to stop.

That's a shed load of caffeine and sugar.

Wean yourself off. Buy diet / caffeine free and over two weeks, rebalance your intake. Take exercise. Drink water, etc. scale back.

Diet is just as bad (tinfoil hats), I stopped drinking 6 cans a day in Dec 11, and then all sugary fizzles from this year onwards.

Just drink water and squash now.

If you can last the first 5 days you should be fine. And £10 a week better off!

I meant use diet to help reduce the sugar intake whilst maintaining and then reducing caffeine.... Phase them all out... But slowly for both, not overnight.

I'm in my mid - late fifties and have never (other than tasting and disliking) drunk alcohol so have been drinking Coke (never Pepsi) at home and socially for around 40 years.

Still have most of my own teeth and no Coke related illnesses. However I did develop a Coke belly rather than a beer belly and decided 3 years ago that I needed to do something to reduce my weight. This was initially to be through the basic, eating less and exercising more routine until I realised that I was consuming more than the contents of a 45 gallon drum of Coke every year. That's what brought the issue home to me - and I roughly calculate 2 litres per day to equate to 4 x 45 gallon drums !!!

I more or less stopped drinking it, with rare treats on occasional nights out. Otherwise I only drink Coke at home when barbecuing (maybe once a month) and mainly drink fresh orange socially. I've always detested the Coke Light, etc replacements so haven't really substituted Coke and still love the taste but it has become a treat. I found it easier once I saw the problem as a habit and not an addiction.

I'm someone who criticised all unhealthy addicts. I thought addiction was a weak person's issue and that people never wanted to help themselves. I mean, how hard is it to just say no? I would occasionally smoke mj at first maybe 2-3 times per year, then gradually it became once a month, then once a week until I was smoking it every day.

I would never say I was addicted, but I was/am bloody close to it. The problem is I swear it’s messing up my memory and other functions. It makes me paranoid as hell but I’m not quite sure why I want to smoke it? It gives me relentless hunger and I just want to sleep afterwards.

I know a lot of people who do smoke and very rarely are these people successful, happy people.

So yeah, that’s it. No more for me unless it is on the very rare occasion.

So, with your coke addiction hehe just stop man. Or at least slow it down. You may get thoughts of keep wanting to drink it when you’ve told yourself you’re cutting down but that’s just your mind playing tricks and everyone who has some form of addiction would go through the exact same thought processes. Keep busy.

I think Pepsi Max is a really nice taste so switch over to that at first if you can. I can imagine it will be hard, but it’s good you have admitted you’ve got an issue with it.

Think about your teeth and what all that sugar is doing to your bodily functions like insulin secretion and sensitivity… it will do you serious harm on the long term. See what the guy above said and that he’s now diabetic…

I would rather drink the full fat stuff over the diet stuff mainly due to the amount of aspartame in them.
