Private or NHS dentist? ( Same practice )

Looking at dentist services locally and a couple of practices do NHS and private in the same practice.
What are the pros and cons of either? Seems on the NHS, it is £18 or £49 for 90% standard work, where as private they want you to join a plan at £16 a month for very basic work going up from there.
Anyone have experience and any dentists shed light on this?

might have young dentist doing the NHS and the more experienced one doing the private. You get what you pay for...hopefully!

I have a new young dentist, she is the best i have had because she has the latest techniques and is diligent BUT she is NHS through and through so when i needed a new cap I had to beg her to charge me £500 for a nice one, it was done perfectly though.

So mix the two, private and NHS - pay more for nicer fillings

What you pay for the NHS work, and what the dentist actually get's paid for doing it are two separate things.
However, as above, you only get the bog basic stuff on the NHS. No colour matched fillings, caps etc...
For general check up, scale and polish etc... then there's no benefit to going private at all.

If they do both then go on NHS and they will offer you the extras when you need it.

I went private though I would say both the wife and I were mis sold the package as the dentist told us that the

"NHS are moving towards extractions instead of trying to save the tooth".

materials and any specific equipment for the materials i can understand , but what other kit ?

Rotary niti files and motors, system B heat condensation kit, procera crowns, penta impregum dispenser, micriscope....is that enough?

Only a small selection which is high cost.
I happen to use these on the nhs...byt I can afford to! Certainly dont make money in the items for which used.

Cant be many that have enough UDA's to be fraudulently claiming them. Probably far more patients think they are NHS when they are actually private because the practice has used their UDA's.

What is the average contract size in the UK?!

I do agree though; I imagine there are a few practices in the UK that start looking to claim patient revenue even though they have completed their contracted UDA.

At least it all changes soon. Roll on Red-Amber-Green....

Only 3 months into year! So if completed udas......small contract! Clearly must have private work
