Just seen an advert for slendertone and it said it can be the equivalant of 120 sit ups.

So does it work? Does it just tone or would it shift a jelly belly?

short answer - gimmick

longer answer - I have one, and I used it for a good few weeks, and to me, it was not doing anything at all apart from giving me a mild electric shock to the skin, didnt go deeper than the skin at any setting, i must admit i didnt get to 100% but it was hurting up near the top end of the scale, and didnt do anything to the muscles at all, just shocked the skin. didnt loose any fat or build any muscle.

and I dont really have much fat either, just about an inch of fat on my belly, so someone with a lot of fat, it would do even less, but you cannot get less than nonething, so it does nothing.

They're for lazy people who are willing to throw money at a gimmick that doesn't work. Far better to do 120 crunches.

Slendertone doesn't help with fat loss. At best it could stimulate the muscles but muscles under fat look even worse since you now look a whole lot fatter because your stomach potentially sticks out further! hehe

The answer is exercise and diet. Being 'toned' is a result of low bodyfat and nothing else.

Diet is about 75% of the end result unless you can do enough exercise to overcome a poor diet (not many people have that much time or inclination to spend hours exercising each day).

For your goals it wont make an ounce of difference.

I've played drinking games with one. Switch it to max and see if you can stand still. They had another with arm pads too and it was fun to try to pick up a drink with it on full power.

They are good fun for being silly with! hehe

rofl I might dust mine down. whistle (Bought it about 15 years ago. About the same time I bought a set of vinyl DBs and wondered why I was going nowhere doing bicep curls with 5kg DBs. nuts )

I understand Bruce Lee used one.

Probably should of said I have no intention to get one (far too lazy...) was just curious as to how they can still be selling them after all these years!

OMG!

I bet the OP subscribes to this as well:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b05pf9Dqnw

Go-on get one. It'll help be short-cutting the need for exercise. I suggest the best place to use them is in bank queues, rail platforms, outside school gates, when peering over neighbours hedges and in cop shop waiting rooms.

I've got one.

I bought it to help with my core strength. It worked, I got a defined tummy (I'm not a fatty) and once I was up to a certain level of strength I stopped using it because my posture had changed and the core strength increase now seems to be sustained - possibly because I use those muscles now!

So - worked for me, but using it properly is as uncomfortable as proper exercise. I'm not afraid of exercise - I walk 6 miles a day with elevation changes in the order of 200m.

So why did I use it? Sit ups and crunches give me massive headaches - not sure why, they just do. Migraine level ones for nearly 24 hours. So I avoid them!

If you're a fatty and you want a sixpack, it's not for you.

Bruce lee did indeed use one, I've used one at a friends house, okay for a laugh like but I'd rather do situps than sit watching the TV like some kind of wild turretes suffering dog with nits.

I naively bought one a few years ago, never saw any difference... I had too much fat, probably around 18% body fat.

I've now lost 32lbs and have started using it again and I'm really noticing a difference. Can see a 4 pack appearing now at around 14% body fat. Tummy also feels extremely firm now. I also find it very convenient to use whilst watching TV, milling around the house etc.

Contrary to what others have said, I can really feel my muscles being worked. Not shocked.

I bought one when I was younger from abroad. You know; the ones that run at higher voltage wink

My god that thing made your muscles tense!
Only thing I can compare it to is this:

Not a sledertone but a device of similar concept I strapped to my thighs several years ago, turned it upto 10/10 and whacked it on whilst sat at the desk doing some work (I had been using it on my stomach to mild effect on 10/10). Pulse, pulse, wham; up I came almost fliping the desk over as the muscles contracted violently. Key is to make sure the conductive pad is moist at all times if its to work.
