Had this for just over a year now, I've got rid of it twice "the old fashioned way" but now its back and causing me more pain than before. Its seriously hampering my performance at the gym, and even hurts at work when I'm using the mouse. I have an appointment with the doctor on tuesday and I'm pretty tempted to ask about getting it cut out. Anyone had this done?

Thankfully not. I had a ganglion on my finger a year or two ago, it just 'went' over time.
Best of luck.

I have had it done twice now on the same wrist, I was put out for both.
It's nothing really but the trouble is the bugger is coming back again, so if you have it done it may come back at some point.

Tried smashing it with a heavy book? Got my Mrs to do this to mine. Worked a treat.

I had one years ago just keep putting LOTS of pressure on it with my thumb - it eventually went back to where it came from.

I ended up with one after a hospital stay. Positive it was the needle they put in wrist to start off labour. First few months I was in agony lifting my new baby!! Not nice, I was not able to bash with book as right on the bone (and no one was willing to do it for me lol).

Still there but no longer causing pain, hospital say they will wait till it flares up then cut it out.

Good luck.

How did you get on OP?

Should we be worried by your lack of an update?!

I had one removed from a left wrist a few years ago, done under local anaesthetic as I wanted to travel later that day so had to refuse a general. Was a quick simple op, had no further problems since.

I saw this thread had been updated and checked my wrist!

I tried the book hitting technique without any success - then I asked my wife's friend who is a district nursey and she just belted it with the edge of the Argos catalogue (have you seen the size of the latest one?!?) and boom it sort of pulsed and disappeared. My wrist hurt for a few hours!

That was earlier this year, so fingers crossed it's gone for good - I've not been to the gym much though which I think may have caused it.

Only opt for surgery as a last resort (causing pain/discomfort that affects day-to-day activities). Surgery has a 40% recurrence rate !

In good hands, probably <10%, perhaps even <5%

proper excision of the cyst wall and obliteration of the dead space, just good surgical technique

I have one - not huge but just aware it's there sometimes.

When you hit it with a book, do you bend your wrist downwards so the lump pokes out more, or hit it flat?

(When I googled them I found out they were called "Bible Bumps" as people used to smash them with the family bible smile )

I had a rather large one on my right wrist for a few years.(right handed plasterer)
Surgery was needed to remove it,they found it had grown around some bone so they chipped some bone away and stuck me in plaster for 6 weeks.

All ok with no sign of it after 5 years or more.
