My wife's right leg is giving her a lot of aggravation. She says it aches almost constantly, and when it's not aching it has a kind of numb feeling, like a dead leg.

The numbness makes me think it might be nerve related, like sciatica (which I get a lot of too).

I've nagged her to go to the doctor but she won't, she's very stubborn.

When I get sciatica I take Naproxen (NSAID) which helps, so I might see if she'll try one or two of my tablets to see if they help.

Any other ideas or advice?

(Did I mention I've already told her to go to the doctor?)

Thanks

Does it look red? Warm to touch? Has she had an operation recently? Has she been inactive? Long flight?

If yes to any of the above, I'm thinking DVT. If so, get her to a Drs asap/call 111/NHS24/NHS Direct.

No it's not red. She's always cold if anything! No recent operation, always on her feet (she's a teacher) and we've recently been abroad but only a 2 hour flight.

If she had a sharp pain or swelling I might have thought DVT but as I say, it's a constant all-over ache.

But thanks....

Where in the leg?

I get sciatica from my piriformis (sits between your hamstring & glutes). I think you can get different forms of sciatica.

Mine is much more local - I know some people get it from the bottom of their back ALL the way down the leg.

Not that we know of, although her elderly mother is.

Starts in her hip, then all the way down her leg.

She can't lie on her right hip at night, or at least is not comfortable doing so.

alway cold with numb limbs... could be blood\vein related. My Mrs has trouble with her veins and is almost always cold.

Hmm I think the leg would be numb if diabetes was to blame.
