the outside of my left wrist is swollen, but soft. if i try and rotate my hand through left-right or clock-anticlock it hurst like mad and if i try to pull anything shut like sliding doors i get a very sharp stabbing pain along the outside edge.

i'm at the docs tomorrow, any bets?

It is hard to resist suggesting a wking injury!

Sounds like a swollen tendon perhaps. Have you knowingly injured it recently or did it just come on?

i use my feet.

i dont recall specifically injuring it but it seems a little better each morning after rest, but gets worse as the day goes on due to just normal use. i can stick a pic up if anyone can help?

ETA pic, it's the one on the right in shot, (my left) on the inside, just after the heel of my hand...

Looks like ligament damage.

These are great for strengthening wrist ligaments and improving rotation strength (among other things). But wait until the inflammation has calmed down.

I can clearly see the problem here Sailor, your left wrist is lacking the little ghay bracelet thingy that the right wrist has to keep it from going limp.
