Might sound weird, but over the last 6 months I've been working on my cardiovascular fitness, and I'm sure that as I get fitter I sweat more! Now it may just be a coincidence with the weather but, has anyone else noticed this? I wondered if your body gets more "primed" to need to sweat to cool you down as you become able to work harder?

Yes! I have found I sweat a lot more now after spending the last 2 years training hard to improve my cardio

I sweat more now I'm getting fitter, must be due to being able to exert yourself longer!

My old games teacher (a former rugby pro coach) used to say "you need to learn to sweat"

Yeah, since training more, I feel like I run at a hotter temperature. Perfect for this weather. banghead

Several factors come in to play-

Current temperature.
Muscles working more efficiently produce heat as a waste product.
Less surface area (assuming you've lost fat/size) so your body needs to find a way to cool down, which is sweat.

Yes i do. Never used to sweat much at all but now it p1sses out of me.

Your body will be running at a higher rate for a while after you work out
Also i put it down to bacically having less of me. Drink the same and your smaller that fluid has gotta go somewhere.

Yep. I used to be a18 stone of blubber, hardly ever sweated, no BO, feet never smell. Then I lost 4 stone through lots of cardio, still not much sweat. Now I've dropped the CV down and I'm lifting heavy and taking creatine, BCCA, high protien diet etc I sweat like an absolute pig and I stink like one too.

Odd really as I associated sweating with being unhealthy. I have leather seats in my car and when I drive home from the gym I have a pool of sweat on the seat, no joke, actual puddles of sweat.

Nice.

Whey protein is a culprit for the stench.

Really? My work T shirts only go a day between washes now, used to get 3-4 days out of them.

Efficiency. The body moves the core heat to the outside of your body more efficiently as you get fitter(or train more, not sure which), hence the sweat.

Yeah, example: my B-i-L smelt funny for a month or two. Like he hadn't washed after a tramp had vomited and pissed on him. I couldn't sit within about 1m of him without gagging. Then suddenly he didn't smell. While chatting about training, it transpired he'd started taking protein shakes and then after a month got busy with work so stopped training (and taking protein shakes).

Example 2: when I eat a whole pot of cottage cheese in one sitting, the next day, my pits smell awful. Normally, I can go a whole day without smelling of anything bar deo or EDT. I end up having to apply deo twice.

I've been lifitng in a gym for about 4 months, but played football for far longer. Started on Creatine and Whey last month and at the moment I'm like you - shirt is absolutely drenched from about half way through a work out.

Sweating is good for you. It's one of the key features that allowed humans to dominate this planet. Do it loads.

It also only stinks if you sweat a little bit, enough to leave persistent moist patches and cultivate bacteria. Kind of like in the pits of a fat computer programmer who perspires slightly because his numerous fat folds stop his skin from breathing properly, for 8 hours a day at his desk. But if you sweat loads so that it drips off your body, it cleans your skin, flushes out your pores and doesn't give bacteria a stable breeding ground... if you sweat with exercise but stop when slobbing about, then you shouldn't stink either because the bacteria still doesn't have a stable breeding ground.

In this heat I get into several massive sweats a day, don't stink, but do shower but only once a day. Doing loads of regular sweating I reckon is also what contributes to me still passing for being in my 20's.

It's the food you eat, too. As I say, eat whey, smell of stale vomit.

When I first started going to the gym I used to come out feeling hot and flustered, but not sweating much. These days I end up looking like I've just stepped out of the shower, but feel a LOT more comfortable, so I'd say it's a good thing.

Not very attractive though, unfortunately.
