A bit of background my left knee often goes crack when doing single leg squats, it can be heard across the room and is a bit disconcerting but not painful (although has never happened with ordinary squats).
Today I was climbing over some kit on site (a piece of duct about 800mm high) with my left foot on top as I started to step up it cracked and started to feel a bit peculiar and painful, since then if I sit with my knee at 90 deg it is very painful when I try to get up.
Any ideas, I'd planned a long run tomorrow morning but looks like that is off the agenda!

Arrange (via your doctor) for an MRI scan.....

And take it easy for the next few weeks, you could do lasting damage if you push yourself too hard.

You may end up needing an Arthroscopy....(Google it)

  • DISCLAIMER* I am not a doctor btw.......biggrin

Rice

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

This may sound like a stupid question but why do single leg squats if you could potentially fook your knee?

Don't arrange an MRI scan, see if your GP knows his beans, but if not ask to be referred quickly to a consultant knee surgeon without an MRI.

I diagnose most things without an MRI, only use it for complicated cases, or retears, or dislocations etc

You may have nothing or something, see a specialist,

The alarms bells ring with Locking and new Clicking and Joint Swelling and Loss of Extension.

I am a doctor BTW' with a couple of thousand arthroscopies under the belt :smile

Thanks, will try to see my gp and get referred, it was a bit uncomfortable overnight and has also tightened up in the back of my leg above the knee, a bit like a pull right at the bottom of the hamstring. went to the gym and did some light leg press which wasn't painful.

I'm sorry but you sound like an idiot, your knee went "pop" and could be damaged and you're at the gym doing leg press? Rest it and get to the GP as soon as possible with putting as little weight as possible on it.

Only through a range of movement that wasn't uncomfortable and very light, if it had hurt I would have stopped but wanted to try to understand the extent of the problem which seems to be when the knee is fully bent.

If it becomes a problem then it might be worth seeing a physio - I had 2 nightmares with my knees on the NHS with both times GPs saying i was fine and to rest whereas both times physios said I need further treatment. impression i got was that you were not getting referred unless you couldn't move.

if you can get a physio opinion then your GP may be more willing to make a referral (if necessary).
