Help: Done the weight loss, now onto the getting fit bit.
Discussion
So after this thread: the challenge , I WON!!!!
In six weeks I went from 16st to 13st 10lbs (losing 32lbs). I did it whilst also building a base level of fitness by swimming three times a week and 600 cals two days a week with 1550 cals the other days. Now, notwithstanding I've got a very nice reward coming up over the next few weeks, I've booked myself into a gym and had my induction today.
The induction went ok, I came out well on the cardio tests and not too bad on strength but then had a major 'head between knees, going to decorate the carpet' moment so am going back tomorrow to finish the programme measurements. Recovered quite quickly though.
It looks like I'll end up doing a two split weights programme four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with cardio interspersed at the gym and outside on those days and others - maybe even doing a morning cardio and evening weights. The knee injury held up pretty well (the only problem I had was ironically getting onto the bike when it twinges badly enough that I had to get on with the other leg first).
Goal is to finish the last bits of weight loss / fat reduction, get cv healthy and tone / make everything the right shape, size and ensure I'm generally sexy in the eyes of my wife. Not looking for Arnie level, but some lean muscle and definition would be good.
So, if you're still reading, what do I need to do next? I've bumped the cals up to 1970 for now, with it likely to go up to 2470 soon and my diet is now very fish, chicken, egg heavy. The last time I was in the gym was the late 90s and I was there a LOT, but it seems things have moved on quite a bit. Are protein shakes worth looking into? I'm looking into a cti vapour knee brace that might be good enough to allow me to manage squats and lunges but it ain't cheap so will take some time (I'm time rich and cash poor at the moment). Until then, I'm playing it very safe so I don't set myself back through injury.

No-one is going to help you until you tell the forum what exactly you have been demanding for your week of "sexual nirvana" and that if she hasn't said no to anything yet you're obviously not trying hard enough!
Why take the week immediately? I'm savouring it, hanging it in front of her / generally taking the piss for a few weeks and basically doing lots of 'internet research' (which strangely enough isn't listed on myfitnesspal. She is taking it surprisingly well to be fair (so far). You need to update your original thread OP.
A few years ago I lost s
t loads of weight though cardio but didn't put much muscle on. Best thing I did was get a personal trainer who showed me where I was going wrong. Apparently it's easier to turn fat onto muscle than create muscle from being a skinny rake! I ended up very happy with my fitness, but it's not alway that easy to keep it up, especially when you throw kids etc into the mix.
Well done and Good luck.

Magic.OPer - fit... define what it means to you. If you lift weights and get stronger, you'll have got stronger but you won't be able to run a marathon, win a tennis championship or climb a mountain. If you train to run a marathon, you won't be able to climb a mountain, win a tennis championship or bench your bodyweight. Etc.

Fit to me = able to do anything in daily life without an issue. Now, bear in mind that I'm carrying a bad knee injury so that means being able to compensate with superior upper body strength and excellent core stability (and fitness will hopefully build muscle around the knee. Issue is ACL, MCL and LCL all shot to pieces. Cti vapour will be procured for all fitness work as soon as I can afford it).
Now, when I was 16 I was a very serious cyclist. My PBs for time trials were 22.15 for 10 miles and 58.59 for 25 miles. I was fit then (and was doing too much gym work too early in life but that is another story). So, my second definition of fitness is to break the hour for a 25 mile time trial again, target before I'm 40 - which is in three years. I'll prep for that outside the gym.
The third definition is the vanity one. I want to look good, when I go swimming or to the beach I want to have women throwing themselves at me (I may have to wear a mask, admittedly). In fact, I want the sort of woman who you wouldn't want to take home to meet your parents throwing themselves at me. Yes, I'm married and yes I'm very happy with her, so I wouldn't be catching these women but hopefully you get the point. In an ideal world, think Henry Cavill or Matthew McConaughey-type physique. Yes, I'll have to work at it, but I've come this far, I WON'T be going back to the old ways.

Ok, prepare for a woolly answer.

1) If it's about your knee, then just do tai chi.Fit to me = able to do anything in daily life without an issue. 2) If it's to break cycling records, then get a bicycle.
3) That's not being fit. That's just reducing bodyfat which is more about getting the food right in the kitchen.
