Anyone else done this? I'm on day 2 of standing at my desk! Legs ache but I'm sure that will pass.

I've considered it; have you found one or just bodged something to test it out?

ETA, an article I read recently: click here - a bit hippy/out there but you get the gist.

Christ, I can't imagine standing at my desk all day.

What's it like? Any benefits other than reduced stress on your back?

So far I am using coffee tables to raise up the monitors and keyboard! But I have ordered a Lack coffee table from ikea (planty of online guides how to then mod it to fit ontop of a standard desk)

Benifits.......lots of fancy pants studies about health risks of sitting (even for those who work out a lot - like me)....but keeping it simple, I've found I feel more energetic, dont waste so much time (you dont feel like wasting an hour on here when you are stood up!), back feels good, dont get all sweaty being sat in a chair, feels like exercise (it is! My leg ache shows my body is working to keep me upright!) and using the phone is good because i can pace around and feel (so sound) more upbeat to clients on the phone!.

Very hard to explain....I just feel more "ready to work".....I have a meeting at 4pm and am looking forward to sitting in the car for the 30 min drive as a bit of a rest!

Kudos

I used to work in Sweden were all the work desks were configurable. I really miss this as sometimes I want to stand and type - strange to see the first time round, but surprisingly comfortable once you get used to it

Did it for a few weeks a couple of months ago

Didn't work for me. Make sure you're standing with decent posture or it'll be even worse for you than sitting. A mixture is clearly best but I've found sitting and then short walks every 20-30 mins is a decent compromise

Oh and I messed up my heels, was in quite a bit of pain by weeks 3

The key is balance. Standing all day is no better than sitting all day.

Balance is right...but actually, standing all day is prob better than sitting!

I am doing about 5 hrs standing to 3hrs sitting (inc car) and that feels good - previously it was 8 hrs sat ..... plus outside of work I sit a lot anyway (Tv, etc)

My back begs to differ!! But I used to do 10 hour shifts on my feet all day, 5 hrs definitely ok as long as not completely stationary.

Stand at your desk to work? Bad as sitting!

What matters is ergonomics, your posture, get one of these - a kneeling chair.

Comfy, adjustable, well-made, not expensive, long-lasting and great for your posture.

Long term your knees might scream a bit, but then I just swing mine round and sit on it's edge!

Nearly 10 years of use now (after spine/disc problems). At my desk nothing else would make me go back to a normal chair. Dinner table, in the car, watching tv etc, yep 'normal' chair, sofa whatever.

In front of the PC, kneeling chair ...every time.
