For a few months now I have been eating sensibly and going to the gym 3-4 times a week and it has all been going well. I have managed to loose a stone from 16st down to 15st and have started seeing some gains. Recently I read about a root extract called Maca and it just seems too good to be true. There is an article about it here.

Some of the many benefits of Maca include:

overall stress protection;
aids in sleep, cures insomnia;
quicker injury recovery;
increases metabolism, may help with weight loss / obesity;
improve sex drive & cures erectile dysfunction;
reduces the risk of developing diabetes;
may ease symptoms of arthritis & joint pain;
improve workout performance, endurance, stamina, strength & muscle gain;
raises testosterone in men & eliminates hormonal problems in women;
reduction of allergies to dogs, cats, seasonal pollens, etc;
may slow the progression of Alzheimer’s when combined with Rhodiola Rosea;
reduces the regularity & severity of asthma attacks;
increases brain function leading to better mental clarity & perception;
cellulite reduction, eases symptoms of crohn’s & IBS , eliminates constipation;
may cure chronic fatigue, relieves depression, aids in detoxification;
lowers high blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, increases energy levels;
can benefit macular degeneration & night vision loss;
psoriasis relief, may reduce scars, relieves thyroid & hashimoto’s disease;

It seems the perfect supplement for training so I got myself a pack and am two days in. Now I dont expect to see any benefits instantly but I wondered if anyone else has tried it before and had any positive experiences with it?

It probably does exhibit some of those things but with most supplements you have to ask yourself is it making 0.01% difference or 20% difference for the cost. You'd need to spend the time reading any papers they have on it and possibly looking for other scientific studies to see how they've got to their conclusions if there are unbiased research papers.

Lots of supplements/natural herbs are of an extremely limited benefit. Know some of the other wonder extracts like Acai berries or how about Raspberry Ketones, promise the world and deliver zero real benefits. Sometimes the substance is useful and does have health benefits but often is undosed to the point it is of no real use.

Maca if the statements are true could be of use but until you've spent sometime researching it, you probably wont know.

What supplements are you currently using?

Keep us posted regarding this product.

I notice it claims to help with Crohn's Disease - diagnosed almost 20 years ago and never heard of it before so may give it a try myself.
Let us know if you encounter any issues with it, side effects etc.

Well the fact that no one has any experiences says something but I'm willing to give it a go. Even as a placebo, if it helps then that's something but ill be open minded till I'm at least a few weeks in.

At the moment I am using gold whey protein, macs and Korean ginseng so any gains in performance should be easy to spot as I have been on the protein since I started on the weights and that is for my recovery. Ill keep you posted. I can't tell you if it helps with chromes though as I don't have that.

It is more of an advert than an article. (Actually it is just an advert)
