Hair loss and Propecia...

Alright there chaps.

So noticed to old barnet starting to receed and thin out at the front rather rapidly over the last few months, at the age of 24. Happened to every man in family except one grandad, so i knew it was only a matter of time.

Im am absolutely not prepared to lose my hair if i can help it. It's part of my identity, i like my hair and its colour, and I dont think i pull off the shaved head look at all to be honest judging by past experience.

Im not too bad at the moment, but I don't want it to get any worse.

Have any of you ever used Propecia, or still do? So much bks on the internet about it, but im just after some solid, real world advice. Just ordered some from Boots Online, so...

-Does it work?
-Does it at least let you keep what you already have? (fine by me, not too much regrowth needed)
-Have any of you experienced the much debated side effects?
-What are your general views/advice/experience/results?

We had one patient who used it for a few years and he seemed to maintain a good head of hair. Don't know what it did to his sex drive though and personally I'd not take it because of that

Well.....pomegranate juice. Boosts the sex life and has a side effect of hair growth. Don't know how or why but it does. Your just going to have to take my word on this. HTH

With what I've heard about Propecia, I'd rather lose my hair. Ruining your sex drive might be rare but I'd be paranoid. Shave her head op and live with it or try caffeine shampoo, throw the Propecia away without taking any of it.

I have been very very slowly balding since I was 15 or so around the left temple. Started taking propecia at around 30 when it starting to get noticeable. Took it on and off along with minoxidil(?) plus some other herbal stuff, norkil(?) for the next 10 years or so. Did it grow any hair back, perhaps a little and even now in my early 40's have a reasonable covering of hair. I stopped taking all this stuff 3 years ago and to be honest its made no difference, so did it actually help at all? Who knows, physiologically maybe yes it did. Sex drive has always been a bit low anyway, so no issues there. Try it for 6 months and see how you get on.

I started losing my hair in my mid twenties and had developed a noticeable bald patch/solar panel by the age of 28. I felt (quite irrationally) that it was always the "elephant in the room" in social situations so decided to give Propecia a go.

After about 3 months on it I noticed my hair loss had slowed down, there was definitely less on my pillow/in the shower tray each morning. Great I thought. Then after 6 months in I suddenly experienced the side effects: watery jizz, not-so-stonking erections, reduced libido. This went on for about 2 weeks and they were very real. I must admit I basically shat myself at this point and stopped taking it completely. I'd read all sorts of horror stories about these side effects and how they stay with some poor sods for ever and ever. Luckily for me they subsided after I stopped popping the pills and I was duly transformed back into my usual studmuffin self

Did Propecia cause my "issues"? Maybe, maybe not. Would they have gone away anyway if I continued taking it? Maybe, maybe not - I certainly wasn't going to risk finding out. Did it stop my hairloss? Well I thought it had at the time, but I've not taken anything for hair loss for 6ish years now and it hasn't really got any worse - not everyone develops the dreaded "horseshoe". Did it cause new hair to grow back? No it definitely did not.

Try Propecia is you wish - plenty of people do but in my experience its simply not worth it risk vs reward. Ultimately there's nothing you can really do about going bald. No pills or lotions are going give you your hair back. Even Wayne Rooney's £25k uber-thatch looks ridiculous IMHO. I've found if you just accept your baldness and then everyone else will.

I’m 28 and a bit aunt mauld. My hair is a little thin around my crown and my hair is receding – it has been doing this slowly for the last 7-8 years. It is getting worse, but not massively so.

I won’t bother with any hair or hormone treatments. Unless something comes out that is a 100% fix, it’s not worth it for me.

Yeah it sucks, it’s painful almost especially when the world is really bothered about image, but I’m sure you can make up for your baldy locks in other ways.

Mine started going (slightly) aged 24. It's not a full baldie (now 38) but if I have anything other than a grade 1 all over, I look like a paedo/freak.

It does annoy me but there are bigger things to worry about. Jason Statham and Bruce Willis are my heroes... ;-)

I can sympathise why at your age you’d like to keep your hair. I’d thought I’d got the good side of the families hair genes until at about the age of 26 I noticed so thinning above the temples, I’ve not done anything about it and I can say it’s not got any worse but at the time felt if I could get to my 30’s which I now have I wouldn’t be too arsed. I just wish if I was going to go bald it would happen quickly, I’ve a huge melon head and don’t suit a skin head otherwise I’d have just embraced this by now.
A mate has used pills and spray stuff with decent success, not sure I’d fancy the potential side effects and you cannot use them if you’re trying to have kids.
If there was a miracle pill that you paid say 10k for that regrew hair and kept it for life that they’d have a queue a mile long. If it makes you feel any better if you’re anything like me the older you get the less you’re likely to care about it!

Worrying about hair loss causes hair loss. Forget about it. Nobody gives a fk apart from you. Some women like bald or balding men, some don't, but no woman likes a man who isn't happy in his own skin and/or lacks confidence.

There is a reason most doctors won't recommend Propecia. It's pretty dangerous stuff.

I feel for anyone going through it - whether that's at a young age or older. It's difficult no matter what age you are.
