Managed to drop 2 stone in 2 months by changing diet and excersising.

Before i rarely used to sweat but now no matter what i am doing i start sweating. Also i am very concious that i am smelling a bit - people say they cant smell it but im sure i can!

So do i carry on and get fitter? Change diet? Live with it?

Have you changed your diet?

Is your sweat smelling different?

Mine is. When I climbed like an addict, I used to sweat like crazy (exercise and fear) but never smelt. These days I smell awful. It's fresh sweat, too, as I was standing in a queue the other day behind a guy who smelt of stale sweat - completely different smell.

I found out it's down to a much increased protein/carb ratio. I notice it most when I move backwards leaving an invisible poison cloud.

I noticed similar when I dropped 3.5 stone this year.

I put it down to 3 things:
Diet - dropped carbs from day time life; my theory is that carbs absorb water, this water is still being produced somewhere and needs to get out- I was also finding more regular bathroom trips

Exercise - I don't know where/what your training is but I found after early morning cardio I was struggling to cool down. Our office aircon is controlled by women, who like it toasty. So what was previously 'nicely warm' was now 'Jesus I'm hot!'

Taking supplements - after I few months I discovered that I was on a lot more tea/coffee/caffeine tabs, to accommodate training 2x day and 5:30 Am starts, Naturally these increase you HR and make you run hotter.

Playing devils advocate it could also be you're becoming anxious, when you drop weight you become more aware of others opinions, this could make you fidgety/nervous.
Once you've become anxious you sweat more, then you get anxious about sweating more and you're in a vicious circle!

Of course this is all my opinion and absolutely not backed up with medical research!

Not on any real diet but cut out the rubbish and eating more fruit and veg - dropped tea altogether and drinking a lot more water.

Training wise i do 1hr weights and cardio 3 mornings a week and trying to cycle 15 miles 2 nights a week. However i am busy and moving/lifting all day.

In other words, you massively cut down on carbs (which is what most junk food is - cakes, crisps, biscuits).

I read something (might have actually been on here) saying that when you get fitter your muscles work "more efficiently" and therefore give off more heat which leads to sweating more. I then looked this up for confirmation elsewhere on the net and it said the same.

I don't really get this, though, because surely if your muscles burn more efficiently by definition there is less wasted energy (heat). Can somebody explain this to me?

It seems to be common to sweat more when skinnier. Mrs Perec has very low body fat and drips during cardio, when I was at my fittest I used to sweat more. Age seems to be factor as well, also low carb diets can cause sweating. Oddly it can be a sign of being insufficiently hydrated on a low-carb diet.

Sweating is an adaptive body mechanism that increases due to training, onset is earlier and increased fluid volume in trained athletes.

I smell of roses when I sweat, but for some reason my gym kit over time starts to smell rough - particularly under the armpits. Even after a good wash it can still be niffy. Anyone found a way to eradicate all lingering sweat smells?

Crystal deodorants used to work. Right Guard + crystal deos were the best performing until earlier this year. I could sweat for hours at the climbing centre. Nothing gets rid of this smell because it's not caused by bacteria. I think I've got it sussed though because EDTs (any) work when sprayed on my armpits. Which means the alcohol must be reaction with the chemicals I'm emitting!

Oxi-Clean/Vanish Oxi-Action is very good too. I had some old trainers that stank and I was going to throw out, I soaked them in a bucket with a scoop and then put it in the machine on a rinse cycle and afterwards they had absolutely zero smell, amazing!

Your wash temperature might be too low. Make sure it's a minimum of 40C. Perhaps go to 60C, though. Don't mix in your lacey knickers with them, though. Mine are ruined! irked
