Is 31 to young for a vasectomy?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had a vasectomy around the same age?
I am married, have 2 kids (3 years and 4 months).
I definitely don't want any more but something is putting me off knowing that I am technically ending any chance if i change my mind.

Anyone had similar worries?

No offence, you did ask after all, but if things go badly wrong and you remarry then you may regret it

Above based on experience of pal who has just remarried 10y older than you are now to a childless 39y old woman
He was similarly initially happily married till he was late 30's or so

I don't think so, as long as you are certain you don't want any more kids. I had mine at 30 and have never regretted it, despite splitting up with the missus a few years later. You just have to be honest early on with any new woman you meet so that you both can move on if it is a deal breaker. There are plenty of women out there who either already have kids or don't want any.

Wanted mine done at 20, doctor told me no just in case I wanted kids. I have a 14 year old who lives with mum and thinks I'm the devils spawn, blood doctor is on my hit list

But there are many women who DO want kids. Unfortunately you might met the perfect woman who wants kids with you, and can't. Couples who cannot conceive because of "normal" reasons have a hard enough time but those who cannot because he had the snip because of/for his ex are facing a very difficult time.

OP, before doing this make sure, absolutely sure that your relationship is rock solid. If you are not 100% sure, I wouldn't.

I had mine done last year....i was 30.

I have a set of 16 month old twin girls and a 4 yr old boy.

It can be reversed in the same way you can will the lottery. Yes, but unlikely to happen and can cost a lot of money trying.

If you have the snip, do it thinking it is forever. Don't do it thinking it is as easy to undo it.

Ok yes, it isnt an easy fix having it reversed but the option is always there. As long as you know the costs and risks involved.

Again, a GP will talk through all that during the consultation.

I know 2 people who have had it reversed and they have been succesfull, like you say it is a gamble.

Backup option: jizz in a cup and get it stored/frozen before the vasectomy. If you DO want another nipper in the future that gives you an option other than attempting reversal. Not sure about storage options on NHS when the infertility is voluntary rather than the result of a necessary medical treatment though. (Got friend who had sperm stored before treatment that caused infertility.)

Had mine done at 32 , in 1977.

Paid cash at a doctors surgery on a Friday evening , drove myself there and home !

Cost me £ 60 and was back to work on the Monday

My Dr told me I'd be unlikely to get one, and I'm 51!

I think I was about that age when I had mine done.

Have two kids and happy with that. I wanted to make my own decision on this and this allowed me to do that. Wife not overly happy at first, but when I got cold-feet prior to op, she was the one that pushed me through. She attending doctor meetings to show it was joint decision.

Would not want more regardless of situation going forward. No regrets.
