I think I have a problem...
Discussion
I love a drink. No two ways about it, I love drinking. I've noticed a change in myself in that I'm slightly fatter than I have been for years, and I don't want to be. While I don't think that I'm an alcoholic, I know that beer hasn't done me any favours. I went out on my bike for the first time in ages tonight and felt brilliant afterwards. Knackered, but brilliant. I want to keep this up, but I fear that my enjoyment of the pub and what it has to offer is going to scupper this. While I know that this is pretty pathetic, I'm not sure how to change, so, has anyone had any problems with this and what did you do to solve them? If it makes any difference, when I get the scales I've ordered, I'll post up my weight on here and try and keep returning to this thread to make any updates! I think, what I need more than anything is advice on how to curb the habit!

Start by knocking off the 'one for the road' 'one last pint' etc. and go from there.
Probably a good idea to stop going at all I think! I think I just worry about not seeing friends that I've made, or familiar faces that I know. Like I say, pretty pathetic!King Herald said:
Limit the days you go to the pub, maybe just four nights a week or something less than you currently go.
You'll have to find something to occupy your empty evenings, and riding the bike will fit suitably. Maybe even find a club who rides out somewhere of an evening.
Luckily it is less than that already, 3 nights a week. I just can't control how much I drink, although I have got better the last two times I've been! The other 4 nights are filled with ringing, so that's a good thing I suppose. Just worry about the nights I don't do that. You'll have to find something to occupy your empty evenings, and riding the bike will fit suitably. You enjoy beer and you enjoy being out on the bike. You just need to get out on the bike enough to offset the beer. Rather than cutting down on your beer/social life, increase the time on the bike exercising. Win-win

Ringing? Bells? Pigeons? Women from the phonebook?
Why not use your perversions for exercise, find a female jogger, follow her home then knock on the door and run away, youll lose weight and save on the phonebill too!
Bells, don't think my girlfriend would be too impressed if I was ringing random women in the phone book! Why not use your perversions for exercise, find a female jogger, follow her home then knock on the door and run away, youll lose weight and save on the phonebill too!

My same problem; once I start, I simply don't know when to stop. Last Saturday I went to a Royal Enfield motorcycle shop grand opening, lots of beer, live band etc. We started at 2pm, and carried on drinking all afternoon. Even the guy driving was as hammered as the rest of us. Then we got back to our local town and hit the bar strip........I was the last one standing, the sensible guys went home when they could hardly walk. Even the driver took off at 3am, when he finally found his car.
My wife tracked me down at 4am at a disco, but I sent her packing as I was just getting a taste for the beer.
About 6am I slowly 'came to' in that disco, slowly surfaced and realised there were people around me, sunlight pouring through the doors. I slowly came alive again and made my way outside, like the start of some video game, became aware I wasn't dead, and managed to eventually get home.
Wife was not impressed with me. I don't think I can remember the last time I went out on the town and got into that much of a mess.

Total abstention on certain days of the week - I dont drink anything on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
This is what I do. Nothing Monday - Thursday inclusive. Friday & Saturday, fill my boots. As soon as I get in from a run/cycle on a Friday evening though, I'll crack one open straight away! Even then it's in moderation though. I'll never drink more than 4 bottles max of an evening. Onto the spirits after that if i'm on a big night however!

That too - 2 cans of beer, then wine, then bourbon
Alcohol isnt really the danger with fat gain, it's the carb-riddled snacks! I can put away 800+ calories of crisps in about an hour
Peppered beef jerky is the way

If your having trouble controlling how much you drink in an evening try hitting the pub a couple of hours later. You'll still get to show your face and see people. It'll be easier to arrive later than face your mates convincing you to stay later. You can still try to limit yourself while there and planning to get there later is an easy excuse; Want to cut down/work/forgot...
Assuming you don't play catch-up for the time you've missed, you'll finish a few pints down on what you would have had.
