No contract so I'm thinking of giving it a go. I'm very much a head down, work out then out type of person. It's brand new opening soon so everything should be clean and shiny to start with. Generally go at off peak times so hopefully won't be too busy. Any thoughts? Should I pay a bit more? Other gym is nearer but would be £38 a month.

It's no contract and a tenner. Surely it's worth trying out for one month? Just check for joining fees.

FWIW I was a member of Pure Gym. Thought it was great, had the bare minimum (no pool/jacuzzi/sauna etc.) but had a good selection of equipment. Only stopped going because I'm cycling to work each day, may rejoin in the winter though!

This is just my experience with a similar gym, but....

Expect the the kit to fall apart and not get fixed, the weights to be spread randomly around the gym because there are no staff to make people put them back, and the changing rooms to be cleaned once a month.

If you can accept the above then you'll be ok.

Have sent a pm.

My experience was good. There was the odd broken machine but no worse than anywhere else I've been a member of.

I was with PureGym

Good points:
Open 24 hours
Easy joining and leaving online
Lots of machines
No having to mess around with staff for inductions etc

Bad points:
No staff - could be an issue I guess
It gets very busy at peak times
My place did not have a seperate area for classes and they basically invaded the gym and took over the main stretching section when classes were on

The equipment is, as you might expect, heavily geared towards cardio and weight machnes - but they did have a reasonable free weight section which was always packed.

As the gym was new so was the machinery - broken down equipment wasn't an issue when I was there.

Normal time I go would be around 9.30am and 3/4pm. Should miss the general rush in my experience. As a shift worker though the ability to have my gear in the car and go after a night shift at 6am would be a bonus.

Mrs hairy goes to one of these supercheap gyms. thinks its great. all new kit, lots of it, and as her lifestyle leads to busy/lean periods theres no frustration at wasted dosh if she doesn't get there for a few weeks and temptation to cancel.
