Hearing aids. Questions for wearers

I am going back to see the specialists again re my left ear. I am now, I would say, 60% down on hearing in it and tinitus also in the left ear.
Can I ask, those who wear, can you use just one aid? I have heard they may be a problem wearing just one?
How do you get on with it / them and can they help tinitus?

Hi, I've worn them for the past 30 years. Started with one, the left, for about 3 years then both ears. I'm about 90% deaf in left, not much more hearing in the right. I also have tinnitus, so know what you are going through. Are you having Nhs 'ears' or private in the ear molds? I've had both btw.
I would also like to add that when the aid is fitted, if it is not loud enough, say so!!
I was told by a fitter in the hospital that they don't like to set them at the correct volume as it may be too much to handle at first. Bulls
t! You will know when the setting is right, you will no longer be able to hear your brain humming and the tinnitus will be slightly less obvious. AND!! They fit it in a soundproof booth! Walk about a bit to hear different sounds and voices, outside with traffic if possible, then go back to get the final sound/tone right.
They tell me that so many people don't use the aids once they have had them fitted, could it be because they don't set the volume and bass and treble right.?
I'll get off my soapbox now. In short.......yes you can use one on one ear. ;-)

I'm a little in limbo. I have been through the system and referred back to the doctor. He says he is going to refer me back again. Last time I was in the hospital, they suggested aids would help, but also suggested they don't like giving just one?
I know looking on line the NHS aids have come on and are now small. I would hope to have one small bit behind the ear with a clear tube into the ear. I have small ear canals though.
