I've asked a similar question about 12 months ago but I've taken a photo this time to hopefully get a better answer. The pen mark is exactly where I get the pain and it doesn't really radiate to anywhere else.

Basically, I can take a 2 month break from squats and then try squatting just the bar and this will flare up. I thought it was a tight/weak psoas for a long time but I don't think it is as I can comfortably hold my leg up above 90 degrees for a minute. At the bottom of the squat it feels like everything has closed In around that area and is pinching down. It hurts to touch today after those light squats yesterday

Is it possible it could be a hernia? There is no visible lump but a very slight bump. Left side is fine, never had a problem.

Go to your doctor, only way to find out. They may refer you for an ultra scan. I got diagnosed with a 'likely' double hernia, when I went to the Docs this afternoon frown

Have you had a previous operation where that mark is?

Never had an operation there

One thing that did cross my mind was old issues I had with my appendix. I swam competitively when I was younger and started getting really bad stomach cramps before a race through nerves. One race it was so bad I got rushed to the hospital and they thought they'd have to remove my appendix. In the end they gave me an injection in my arse and it calmed down. I just wondered whether that constant stress on the appendix left some permanent damage as it appears to be in that exact location

Go and see a Doctor.

Does it ever become painful or stick out a bit and need pushing back in?

I think it's very unlikely to be a hernia. I don't notice it unless I'm doing something that closes that space up, such as squats. Football and swimming don't bother it at all.

I've got physio on Thursday for something else (i'm a walking wreck) so hopefully he'll be able to give an answer/solution. I'm hoping it is just something that needs a real good massage but my attempt at self myofascial release with a lacrosse ball last night didn't help one bit
