As a reward for stopping smoking (37 days and counting) I have now joined the local leisure centre. Am throwing myself into it as I really need to shift some weight as well.

Did a kettlebell class on Monday, swam Tuesday and Wednesday morning and am planning on doing Bodypump tonight (if the muscles stop screaming that is)

Has anybody tried it? Any advice?

My fitness level is pretty poor tbh but have just started playing Masters rugby and need it to improve biggrin

I used to do Bodypump on a Saturday morning in the (football) off-season and really enjoyed it.

A word of warning though; don't load up the bar too much thinking that it's going to be too easy...it won't be...and then you'll look like a wally taking weight off like the old dears told you to at the start hehe

Oh and be prepared to hate with a passion any song that they play during a particularly hard set...

well done SCS on the fags.

i'm not a fan of body pump tbh, in fact I don't really like any of the les mills (BTS) stuff its a bit too prescriptive and I've found that they rarely take into consideration a persons' ability or physiology when they do their routines - just a personal view.

re body pump I would suggest using it to supplement other forms of training. I had more niggles when did body pump once or twice a week than at any other time.

I found my range of motion got worse and I was more prone to cramps and stuff during other exercise. that said, go for it and make your own mind up. but I would slot it into your programme rather than over do it on the body pump.

I'm gonna suggest that your coach was poor, as the coaches at the gym I do les mills courses at always state the 'options' you can take to make the class easier or harder.

I swear by the cxworx classes run by les mills, and would definitely suggest you try pump, as I find the classes really enjoyable and they make it easier to push yourself and you won't want to give up as everyone else is going for it!

Thanks guys

I had to blob in the end for last night as my muscles just weren't up to a class yesterday

Just did 40 lengths instead to try and ease the muscles whilst still completing something biggrin

I did Pump once.

I stood next to this skinny blonde girl...of course I popped on a bit more weight that she did (male ego etc)

She then proceeded to destroy any self-esteem I had..BRUTALLY over the course of the next 60 minutes.

By the end I was struggling with half the weight she was doing and she was finding it easy.

I've not been back since.

(although that's because of time, I'd love to go back!)

If you're getting niggles doing this I would suggest that your form is out and needs correcting. Any decent bodypump teacher should be watching out for this.

Yup it's funny to watch the big guys turning up for the first session not taking heed and loading the weights up...45 mins in and they can't do a biceps curl and literally throwing their back into it. laugh

I go twice a week and have done about 6-8 weeks now.

I use it to supplement my weights and cv program in the gym.

You've got some good advice so far, but would echo dropping the weight right down low to begin with and crank it up after you've got the correct technique, can follow the tempo and complete the set without compromising on the quality.

I really enjoy it at the moment and wouldn't miss a class for the world, as I'm really starting to increase the weights and see some results.

I don't give a damn what others are up to or think. I'm there for what I can take away from the exercises.

Top tip, go very light on the weight on lunges. I have total of 8kg inc bar weight and just about complete the set with clenched teeth.
