This plate in my hand... (3rd metacarple)
Discussion
About 3 years ago i snapped my 3rd metacarpal (the middle bone in my hand) requiring a plate and 4 pins. it does occasionally play up, usually if its real cold. The break also cause my knuckle to 'drop' though that's pure aesthetics.
However its developed some sort of hard growth/mound/calcification on top of the bone. which is very very visible, and in my line of work can be obstructive and its rather annoying.
edit: heres a pic, doesnt look too bad in the pict, but its about 10mm high (to the highest point), 10mm wide and about 20mm long.

Is it possible to get the plate removed on the NHS? has anyone done this before?
Is it likely i will have more complications if i do get it removed?
Anyone else experienced similar?

The NHS will sort this out for you,
A) what's the lump?
B) what probs is it causing?
C) will taking the plate out causes more probs than leaving it in?
That's the menu for your clinic visit.
If I saw you I'd give the hand a proper looking over, get some xRays and lay cards on the table for you. NHS 100%

I broke it when i fell off my mountain bike, went 'out the front door' put my hands out to save myself and my right hand landed on a pyramid shape rock! snapping the bone really awkwardly upwards. The hospital staff said they had never seen a 3rd metacarple soley break, because its usually supported by the other bones and flesh in the hand.
