Hand Foot and Mouth

Took myself to A&E in the middle of last night as the soles of feet and my hands were breaking out in saw itchy welts after 2 days of flu like symptoms - got seen straightaway to be told that I am the lucky 1 in 10000 adults that can catch this unpleasant illness.

Here's looking forward to a week of bursting blisters and excruciating pain!

Any tips on managing/reducing the symptoms from anyone in the know?

I had this a couple of years back - taking antihistamines helped quite a lot for me, and just resting a little, weirdly! It left me with allergic hives on elbows/knees when I get super cold - lovely!

Hmmm... Interesting... as I was just about to post a thread on this.

My 18 month old godson has had this apparently and I was worried I had it as the tips of my fingers have almost invisible but really quite sore spots on them.

Really odd, just started about 2 weeks ago. Random spots on my fingertips that feel like little paper cuts but are actually really tiny lumps that are barely visible.

Not itchy at all and can't feel them until I touch something and then I get the little 'paper cut' feeling from them. Strange and a little unpleasant.

No other symptoms, not feeling unwell or flu-like.

Any ideas??

I got it off my daughter. no real issues with my hands, just small blisters, but my mouth was a mess. I couldn't talk and couldn't eat for about a week.

You must be unlucky! Our daughter had this last month & I was told that the risk to adults is minimal - neither me or SWMBO had any issues.

Daughter seemed to like anything cold (esp dairy) for the mouth ulcers and paracetemol/ibuprofen (not at the same time in babies!) seemed to give her a little relief of the symptoms.

Rest helped too.

As I said in my OP, odds of adults catching it are 1 in 10K!

£ days on, my hands look like I have stuck them in a bees nest, and the feet - cannot explain how painful they are. Only good thing is that the mouth part hasn't been bad.
