Deliberate Breaks in Training
Discussion
I say training, a slight exaggeration. I go for a decent MTB ride at the weekend and go to the gym twice a week, 45 mins of ride/row and a few weights.
Normally life makes me take a break, a cold, holiday, work, something gets in the way every 6 weeks or so and I miss out on excercise for a week.
Invariably I feel a bit better once I start again, like muscles have had a proper recovery. I can pull same the same figures, i've certainly not lost anything.
Question is, is there any recommended intervals to take planned breaks? I've noticed that if I go 7-8 weeks without missing a session my numbers, not to mention my motivation, seems to tail off
I'm 42 and diabetic so hardly a pro athlete, just a normal, well, normal for PH, person

A lot of people take a week or so off, or taper their training every few weeks. For example, I do an intense powerlifting program and one week per month I "deload", so I go to the gym but keep my weights super light.
It's important to give your body time to recover, otherwise you'll start to get run down (in my experience). I only started doing this in the last 12 months - before that I would workout super intensely all year round, and my fitness plateaued because I was obviously exhausted.

Thats pretty much become my thinking too. I had 3 weeks off due to 1/2 term holiday with kids and 2 weeks of a snivelling cold (being diabetic is bad for blood sugars ecercising with a virus) and I felt much better, if a few pounds heavier for the break. Thanks, i'll start doing the same and see how it works outIt's important to give your body time to recover, otherwise you'll start to get run down (in my experience).
