I have just managed to break my 3rd cross trainer frown

In all cases the metal has snapped where the upright joins the base. In all cases the joint is welded but there is very little metal around this area so when I get some lateral movement it obviously puts a strain on the metal.

I started with 2 that were not up to the job and moved up to the current model - a Proform 500 - on the advice of a personal trainer. I use the item 5-6 times per week and anything up to an hour at a time. I am 14 stone so well within the weight limit.

Can anyone recommend/has anyone got a cross trainer where the upright joint is a little more robust?

Edited to add: Would I be better off with the flywheel at the front? Do these offer a more robust solution?

Cheers smile

I have only ever had one and that's a Life fitness x9i which I use everyday combined with dumbbell training. Its a great sturdy strong cross trainer but cost me £3200 8 year ago. I suppose however that's living proof that it pays off to buy a quality one.

I've got a LiveStrong model with fly wheel at front and it seems excellent. Probably only had it 3 months or so but I cant imagine anything breaking and it has all the programs, HR etc you could need. I think it was between £700 and £800 and seems as good as the Technogym ones at the proper gym.

I wonder if the fly wheel at the front gives it more stability. It would make sense I guess as your weight is over the heaviest part of the machine. Do you know the model no of your machine?

Can I ask how often you use it and for how long each session? Also are you a big chap? Please PM me of these questions are too personal: I just want to get an idea if it will suit me smile

Edited to add: I have now bitten the bullet and ordered a more expensive model with the flywheel at the front (as above). Fingers crossed that this one works out for me smile

Thanks for the tip thumbup
