Could AIDs die out?
Discussion
Hear me out:
There's a large chance I will never encounter AIDs in my life (providing I stay with the same AIDs free partner, and don't use dirty needles, and not planning on having blood transfusions with monkeys, or getting attacked by them....)
Surely, if:
. People who had AIDs only had protected sex (This does mean they can't reproduce I guess, unless IVF circumvents AIDSs spreading?)
. Dirty needles were never used.
. Infected animals where put down.
. Stars aligned.
AIDs would no longer exist?

In the short term HIV (rather than AIDS) will become entirely non-fatal. It will become quite rare to develop full-blown AIDS - unless you are in an utterly backward nation.
In the medium term this fact means it will probably continue to become more common.
In the short term, the human race will gradually become more immune to it, in a few thousand years we'll probably all have it and not know/care.

The theory is good but in practice it won't work.
People will continue to have unprotected sex, share needles, rape each other etc.
Watching iirc Sex Clinic it amazed me the number of people who regularly had unprotected sex on a recreational basis ie not in a relationship just for a s

gHmm, isnt going to happen, think there will be a cure before it dies out. Read about how it is transferred in Africa, safe sex isnt practised, basies are born with it, there is a lot of rape etc etc. I think the gay community have adopted some of the safe sex thing but not entirely, but people can be a bit odd and the assumption is everyone avoids contracting it at all costs but that isnt the case,

Then there are those that seek to infect others, then the IV drug users who probably dont give a toss once they need Heroin.
So, no, dont think it will die out sadly.

I'm only half joking with this comment... but realistically with diseases like that would it not be just better to euthanise people who had it? Then you might actually stand a chance of eradicating it...
So someone who is raped by an HIV positive person and then contracts HIV themselves should be legally murdered? What's wrong with you ?

I wouldn't put down a rape victim no. But there could be an argument made to get rid of people who effectively inflicted it on themselves, and would be far more likely to pass it on and continue the cycle. Junkies etc. What's wrong with you ?

So why do we put animals down if they risk spreading disease? If you get mangled in a car crash and you're going to die anyway, why do they try and keep you alive just for the sake of it? If that was your dog you'd do the decent thing and put it down immediately.

Lets get the dog into context. It contracts a disease. Rather than treat it and it live for many years. You kill it for fear it may spread the disease.
We don't do that with cats carrying fiv. So why do it with humans?
