Bone Marrow question

Hey, so I had an MRI done last week to see how bad my herniated disc had got and got the report which confirms my disc is knackered! But at the end of the report it mentions the following;
"Mild diffuse low signal intensity involving the bone marrow of the visualised vertebrae on the T1W images which could be related to anaemia (d/d. Bone marrow disorders).

What does this mean? I know I have beta thalassemia. Would that account for this finding or am I screwed?!

My reading of that is that you seem to have low bone marrow (readings) which may explain your beta thalassemia (anaemia).

Obviously a proper medical opinion would be preferable.

Sparky eyed radiologist has pointed out changes consistent with anaemia. You've named the cause. Puzzle piece fits..

edit: as for the differential diagnosis of 'bone marrow disorder', unless your requesting clinician put your B-thal diagnosis on the request, he wouldn't know you had it, so the report is just covering bases. They're good these radiologists - don't get out of the dark much though.

I spoke to my doctor and he had a look at the films and said there was no problem at all, other than the massive disc herniation!
Microdiscetomy happened yesterday, I'm now back home and recovering.
