My 20month old son is doing poops that are about 2" thick and 6-8" long, is this normal for babies? He struggles at the start but then easily squeezes them out, but the size of his faeces are concerning me!
He doesn't always do them this large, but they pop out at least twice a week!

For clarity I am not a doctor!!
Struggling initially is not good and may cause other problems now or later in life, fissures and haemorrhoids being the most obvious. Best way to soften stools is plenty of water, is he drinking Enough?
Or more accurately, ignore all this amateur diagnosis and speak to your doctor

See your doctor, no good asking here.

Why, because no doctors ever check this section of the forum? What a stupid comment.
OP - if the stools are normal colour and form then don't worry, toddlers don't always open their bowels every day and as long as there isn't any signs of straining or pain on passing stool, it shouldn't cause any problems. If your little one looks constipated, then as previously suggested, some dietary changes/additions or stool softener can be a way of preventing any fissures forming. Otherwise sounds normal to me.

). The problem being you can't really tell the difference, irrespective of what you put in your profile. This is exacerbated by the diagnosis being on a third party who can't really contribute to their description of symptoms.

I agree with what you've said - the same applies with posting in any section of the forum, for example, one person will tell you a gearbox is good for 600lb/ft and another, who may or may not be a transmission specialist, can tell you that it will grenade a the first hint of a remap. I think all advice in this health section should be taken with a good pinch of salt, due to the limitations of the nature of posting in a thread and not examining or taking a full history from the OP/concerned party. The big problems start when someone posts something along the lines of: my kid has a high fever, is drowsy and has a quick spreading non-blanching rash, what type of calpol do you recommend I use....?
My 18m daughter has impressed me too! However sometimes she struggles to get them out as their too dry/thick, so she has Movicol every day now, which makes them come out like cow pats.
She holds onto things and squats now. Then runs around leaving a trail of s
tty smell everywhere until we catch her!
The first bath we ever gave her she shat into SWMBO's hand. Can't wait until she's old enough to be embarrased by that...
