Malaria - what symptoms ?
Discussion
It is very similar to flu, just 10X worse, feeling hot and cold, severe headaches with copious amounts of perspiration, joint pain etc. You need to get to your doctor for a test ASAP, as it can deteriorate very quickly with all sorts of complications, kidney failure etc.
If it is, make sure you get an Artemisinin based treatment, NHS doctors seem to be prescribing treatment which is several years out of date.
You know your doctor is shooting in the dark, when he has to google the treatment you tell him about.

Tends to be cyclic as well, mine was monthly. I had no idea what was wrong, just thought it was a "24 hour" virus, so put up with it for 8 or so months until I described my symptoms to the doctor. One Malaria screen later and I was positive for Plasmodia Ovale.
As we travelled extensively around SEA at the time for a couple of years and I didn't bother with Anti Malarial meds (after reading the side effects, I decided I'll take my chances, and obviously lost).
Mine was always triggered by the onset of a sore throat & headache, then I knew I was in for a relapse. Cue 12-24 hours of shivers, high temp, no appetite, rigors (joint pain), lethargy (walking a few steps was a huge effort).
Definitely get yourself checked out for a Malaria Screen, it's just a basic blood test at the local Hospital.
good luck.

Just to update, went to a hospital this afternoon and had the blood test along with one for Lime disease and others.
EKG and chest xrays.
Should have the Malaria and limes results tomorrow.
Bill will be about 5k dollars for the tests
Ouch, better to be sure in this case. I hope that cost includes an entire harem of vivacious nubile nurses catering for your every needs, for at least 6 months. EKG and chest xrays.

There were several nurses extracting 2008 Kendal Jackson Cabernet from both arms.
The travel insurance should cover it :/
Still waiting for the results today.
Good results for all the other test so some peace of mind and I can just call it man flu
