Hi All,

I have a quick question. I've noticed on days where I tend to "eat what I want but not going to nuts" it's pretty easy to put on half a stone in two days. Is this my body just going bananas' / water retention? Surely it's impossible to put that much weight on in two days?

PS sorry about should read SCALES

Every time I go out on the beer of a weekend I weigh a good 2 kgs more on the Monday. It's usually gone by Wednesday. Wouldn't worry too much about it as long as the long term trend is in the right direction.

Are you eating a low carb diet on your "good" days? If so it may just be your glycogen stores refiling. I can't remember the exact number but I do remember when you first go low carb it is something like 2/3 water loss rather than fat.

Generally I would try to track longer term. Ups and downs over the week / month are nothing to worry about

It depends what you mean by 'not going nuts'.

What exactly do you eat and how much?

Unless you're actually Adam Richmond from Man v Food half a stome is a lot to put on in a couple of days.

OP - just make sure you always weigh yourself at the same time every day.

The best time is first thing in the morning after a pee and a poo, and before any liquids or foods consumed.

I'm just like the OP. Eat a bit more than usual and I can be up to half a stone heavier in a couple of days. Same with booze; I only drink at Christmas and even before the binging begins, I've put on 4KG!

You cant put a stone of fat on in two days, a pound of fat takes 4000 odd calories, so you would need to cram down your normal 2000 - 3000 plus another 14000 a day,

I think it comes from,

Fluid retention, due to salty food making you hold water

Additional food in your system, backed up

Inflammation from alcohol and crap food

Some, minimal weight gain of the calories you have gone over

Just weighed myself, gone up from 90.3 to 92.5kgs on digital scales in 2 days.

The body is a weird thing, I must be retaining water for some reason. No doubt come this time next week it will be down to 90.

Problem is when it goes up to 90.5 one week, then 91 a few weeks later...
