Salt - addiction
Discussion
Wasn't sure whether I should put this in the foody section, anyway, my question is do you think you can be addicted to salt? I can't eat anything savoury with out salt on it and I mean tons of salt. To give you an example I had one bowl of soup yesterday and went through 3 sachets of salt, basically eating a layer of soup then sprinkle more salt, I actually crave salt (gross I know). I know this isn't healthy I had a full MOT last year and am all good but have a low blood pressure. So back to my point can you be addicted to it, thus eventually adding more and more to your food or am I just being daft?
It may be as much to do with your getting used to its taste, as it is the addiction.
So, to still have that salty taste you continue to put more and more on as your tongue continually gets more used to it.
This is possibly the most boring story I'm ever going to tell; last year I went from 2 sugars in my tea to now half. For a few days, the tea tasted bland, but very quickly it tasted just as sweet as it used to. In a habit a couple of weeks on I accidentally put 2 sugars in, thought no problem I'll drink it anyway. It tasted SO sweet I couldn't stomach it at all - I was amazed at the difference.
Where am I going with this, I hear you ask?! Perhaps you could reduce the amount ever so slightly over a few days, then you'll continue to have that salty taste you obviously crave but without having so much of it!?

Fascinating story Tony So, to still have that salty taste you continue to put more and more on as your tongue continually gets more used to it.

no seriously though will try this as actually it is socially embarrassing now as well as bad for me but I do love it sooooo much, especially going back to the salt pot 8 times in a meal really is gross! When I asked for salt in vietnam I thought they were going to batter me to death with the dinner plates!grumbledoak said:
I don't believe salt is addictive. Also, your body is very good at regulating salt balance (or you die) so I would say any salt craving is real need not addiction. 'tis odd though.
I asked a doc once if my salt intake was bad, he said it was way more than the rda but as I had a low blood pressure I could 'get away with it' !!?? Great advise lolGassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
