is not funny.
I seem to be getting recurring Gout, first one ankle and then the other.
excrutiating pain that only codeine and copious quantities of ibuprofen touches.
google James Gillray's interpretation and it does sum it up rapaciously.
in short in f

I've taken allopurinol but you can't take it if you have gout already it makes it worse apparently.
anyone else suffer?

I've been a sufferer for about two years now. I had a full on attack about a month ago the first in over a year, and prior to that just the odd twinge everynow and again. I've since worked out that beef is my trigger, I had eaten beef on three out of four days before that last attack. If I eat beef now, I get a twinge in the foot a day or so later.
I find cherry juice is a great way of stopping having a full on attack in the first place. More so after a night on the beers, I buy "Cherry Good" which can be found in ASDA or Morrisons. Sainsburys don't sell it, and I don't shop at a Tesco, so I'm unsure if they sell it.
If your having an attack right now, then I recommend drinking some Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), it tastes awful, so some in warm water and honey will help, or mix it 50/50 with some cherry juice, about a shots worth will do. Take some ibuprofen to help with the swelling and pain. ACV works wonders for me, and I've not had a case bad enough to warrant going back to the GP since I was first diagnosed. I can often feel the ACV working within an hour or two of taking it.
Also you should drink lots of water, all the time. Give your body as much chance to flush everything out all the time.

Speak to your GP about Naproxen instead of Ibuprofen although you can take Ibuprofen at a dose of 600mg three times a day (with food) which is the cheaper option although it will say a max dose of 400mg three times a day on the packet. This is assuming you are not asthmatic or suffer from reflux or history of a stomach ulcer in which case this type of drug (NSAIDs) should be avoided.
The other option is to ask your GP about a course of colchicine until the symptoms settle and then you can start the allopurinol to stop you having future attacks.
A lot of my patients swear by cherry juice as mentioned by other posters.
Hope that helps,
GB

A mate who suffered told me that the most effective thing he ever tried was a Berocca in a pint of water before bed every night. Worth a try.
Just water will do. Water washes the crap out of your system and keeps it from settling in your joints.Drink lots of water each day!

This, I had a really bad session of gout while on holiday last year, brought on by too much booze, so bad i could hardly walk. 3 days of drinking 3 x litre bottles of water and no booze, completely ok.Drink lots of water each day!

I take naproxen when having an attack, though since i was started on allopruinol i haven't had an attack (fingers crossed, a slightly healthier lifestyle is also hopefully helping!)The other option is to ask your GP about a course of colchicine until the symptoms settle and then you can start the allopurinol to stop you having future attacks.

I was recommended nettle tea as a natural relief by a fellow sufferer and it certainly seemed to help before i got hold of the naproxen from the docs.
good luck OP, hope it passes, such an unpleasant condition
