On sunday morning I woke up with like electric shocks in left hand side, like a band of pain going under my heart and around the back in a half moon shape, it almost brought me to my knees on a couple of occasions and really scarred me, the gaps between the shocks/spasm have become a lot longer and now aches like mad. I have no marks on my side but when I touch my side the surface stings a bit like nettle stings but with no markings, I thought it was my liver until I realised it was the wrong side, someone at work said it sounded like the on set of shingles??

Sitting in an A & E is a a better option than having a heart attack and dying.........

Your choice, I know what I would do.

Good luck.

Make yourself a cup of tea and knock back a couple of anti-inflammatories. Most likely you've slept in an odd position and strained a lower rib (intercostal) muscle. If you have pain in the centre of your chest, maybe travelling down your arm, feel light-headed, shortness of breath etc etc., get to A&E.

I have a water bed so this never happens and have popped loads of anti imflams which do nothing, it not like the heart pain or arm etc, it really is like a painful spasm with prickly painful skin but no rash

The rash may not appear immediately. Can you ask for an emergency appointment at your doctors and see a nurse?

Phone Doctors and ask for the Triage Nurse to call you asap. The nurse will decide if you need to be seen asap or not and will get you an appointment earlier or that day if needed.

IF IT IS shingles, get them to give you Aciclovir QUICKLY.

My mother was just given a pain killer initially and the treatment with Aciclovir was given too late.

Thus she had terrible pain even whilst on a strong morphine derivative (Fentanyl) for five years until she died.

Just speaking from experience. Maybe the doctor will advise you better but go armed with this info.

They think it might be renal colic? i.e. Kidney stones, it has subsided (the spasm/electric shocks) at the mo but feels like I have been punched in the side and abdomen, currently just drinking loads of water and popping painkillers
