Cost of private tooth extraction

Hi,

I have recently had some root canal work done on one of my rear molars (not wisdom tooth) and the dentist did say that it was likely to be 50/50 if it was going to be successful due to complications.

I'm now starting to have some pain when I chew with it or its exposed to extremes of temperatures.

I'm fine having work done on my tooth under local pain relief however if the tooth needs to be extracted, I want general!!!!

My dental practice is NHS and I know that they won't give me a general but does anybody know the likely cost of a private general and tooth extraction?

Just get it done under local you lightweight, it's not a big deal. A filling is much worse IMO. I hate drills especially the low speed ones.

I had two root canals done, lower molars. They then had to be extracted, the first was a breeze, it was out before I knew it. The second a few years later was a bit of a nightmare, there wasn't really enough tooth left for the dentist to get enough purchase and it took about half an hour before he was finished.

If you've never had a local extraction then maybe you're worrying too much about it but good luck anyway.

A local extraction is no big deal, just a bit uncomfortable as they yank your jaw about.

The last extraction I had was under local. once the anesthetic has taken affect it took about three minutes with no pain.

I had one removed with a local and i think it was about £60.

And yes, they do yank you around a bit but there is nothing better than a bad tooth gone (along with the pain that goes with it), as even with root canal work, it may still eventually have to come out.

I've never referred a patient for a private extraction with G.A. ever! I'd imagine it would be quite expensive. You'd likely be fine with IV sedation, no recollection of anything afterwards and no nasty recovery period either. Looking at about £250

Any dentists care to comment on my mum (!) She broke a tooth & has been quoted £2250 for a crown over three visits, an x-ray, a fitting etc. Seems gouging to me. I recall having one done for about £150 three years ago.

I was quoted £400 for a white crown privately a few years back. £2250 sounds very expensive, you could get an implant for that.

I'm the OP and I never even thought about IV.

I guess that is using a stronger drug than the local that they inject into your gum for a filling so that although you are conscious, you don't really know what's going on?

That could be the ticket.

£2250 is expensive for a simple crown. However, is it simple? Its similar to me saying I bought a car for £40k, was I ripped off? No other info given.

I've never heard of any dentists (bar Harley St bandits) charging £2250 for a crown. Preposterous if it is. Sounds like the figure for an implant and the crown over this. A decent porcelain crown on a back molar is anything between £350-650. Any more is unlikely to be good value.
