Hi all,

I Currently I carry a couple of Twix and some glucogel around with me. If very low BS I will take some glucogel followed by a twix and rest till BS comes up.
If just dropping a bit have a twix this seems to take 1/2 hr to raise BS so okay if you notice in time.

Is their anything better/healthier/faster acting to carry (also trying to avoid pockets full of chocolate bars they get a bit squidgy when hot). Orange juice is good at home but a bit awkward to carry in pockets. Often I may be out dog walking for a couple of hours, so want something fast acting but also long acting it's quite hard to judge things.

Thanks

I've got some little juice cartons, handy in the car. Just a bit awkward to carry in pockets and dispose of the package whilst on the hoof. I've tried jelly beans but they don't really seem to raise BS too well.

Hi OP, I was looking to see if that glucogel was like the hypostop I know a friend has.

Wile looking, I spotted the " HypoWallet". That seems like a good thing to keep in the same place as the; collar, lead and poo bags. smile

Sorry, I can't help much but I never go a dog walk without a sweetie. My current favourite is sour squirms.

I wish you all the best. smile

The wallet thing isn't a bad idea at all (The orange tab things are a bit useless)Yes Hypostop and Glocogel are one and the same.

Squirms look nice. yum

My OH keeps Fruit Pastilles for such occasions, and I've never seen anything act so fast when his levels have dropped - from practically a zombie to normal in about 20 seconds.

Dextro Energy or the Lucozade equivalent :

Problem is the packs fall apart after time so you end up throwing the whole lot away unused. Always have to carry them (or fruit pastilles as suggested) though

Lucozade tablets for the step daughter, don't bother with chocolate as it takes an age to kick in.

I've tried these with no joy so carry Glucogel. What I want is something easy to carry and a bit longer lasting. So 1/2 way round a walk (with another hour or so to go) if I notice my B/S dropping a bit I can stoke up so to speak. I always have glcogel on me for when it plummets.

My husband uses jelly babies - sweets seem to work well, and it's easy enough to get a relatively accurate dose (assuming you're not in a dangerous hypo iyswim)!

They do melt in hot cars though biggrin

Gels as well as being fastest acting have caffeine too. Good for clarity, and has an effect on absorption as well I think.

Lots of flavours, the SiS range usually gets good reviews, I've usd them in races.
Simple sugar treats like jell babies too.
Looking at the ratio of fructose/glucose may also aid you, with great absorption rate?

Diabetic nurse always recommends (non choc) digestive biscuits. Glucogel/lucozade for emergencies and back it up with biscuits which take longer to digest. Cereal bars are also great (she has one prior to pe and always does the necessary)

Digestives are good, just a bit awkward to carry, cereal bars are probably a good call though. smile

Just been looking around at different 2:1 products, seems high fie and torq are pretty good. I am gonna buy some myself.
You can get torq gels or but a lil cannister thing to refill from the big tubs.
