On my local for sale page on FB there was some bint, with their job as "full time mummy " rolleyes - you know the sort! She was selling some diet where you drink aloe vera drinks for 9 days to "cleanse" you of "toxins" its called the "Forever Clean 9" diet, claiming that you can lose a over a stone in 9 days!

I couldn't help it so I bit..... hard.

Completely destroyed her with facts and she just couldn't come back with any hard proof of it working other than statements like "but its scientifically blended to give optimum nutrients"

For all of those wondering, any “cleanse” or “detox” diet is a ridiculous scam. Aloe has nothing to do with fat loss. "Clean" has no clear definition in nutrition. And "detox" is just impossible. That's a silly name to hook the naïve and vulnerable who are looking for an “easy fix”

"Detox" is short for detoxification and detoxification is a NATURAL process involving your LIVER and KIDNEYS and there is nothing you can do to effect it. It is impossible to detoxify a human once the toxin is in the blood with the possible exception of kidney dialysis therapy etc, and other expensive medical modalities. Currently "detox" is a fad word, relatively meaningless, and is used to express that which the users (and in this case the seller) cannot otherwise express because of ignorance or because the expression would be patently false.

Detox diets, cleanses, and supplements DON’T WORK. There is no diet which will cause your body to get rid of toxins, heavy metals, poisonous by-products from smoking, drugs, etc. And cleanses for the purpose of weight loss don't work because they can only eliminate water weight and extremely small amounts of waste which the body will replace very quickly.

Your body cleanses itself naturally. Cleanses, purges, emetics, enemas, alternative and homeopathic colon cleanses etc. cannot remove fat from your body or make your body lose fat and/or toxins. If fat is your problem, you're eventually going to realise that nothing works except a PROPER diet for life or in the extreme examples; surgery. The best diet for all normal adults hasn't changed. It is still a varied, balanced, nutritious, and properly apportioned diet of high quality foods.

Detoxification is a fad and a fantasy only. If you have reason to believe you're toxic, consult with your doctor. Don't waste your time paying attention to advertising hype, naturopathic gurus, homeopathic charlatans, etc. The road to good health is paved with science. If you or someone you love gets deathly ill, you will take them to a place where medical science is practiced. So, where is the sense in abandoning medical science in favour of baseless and unscientific methods of quacks and charlatans…… Who cannot answer a simple questions about macronutrients and caloric values?

Yes, cool story brah etc etc but I could see people were actually contacting her about this diet, which after researching is over £100.00 for 9 days!!! eek Imagine how much "real" food you could buy with that, you can even get a few PT sessions with that!

I am sick of naïve and vulnerable people being taken advantage of these pricks claiming to be a part of the fitness and health industry!

Sounds to me like you've got toxin rage- you could do with a cleansing detox diet IMO.

It works in the weightloss sense because you're just drinking green gloop for 9 days. Naturally, you'll binge yourself to death on day 10 and require bigger clothes in the end.

But he'd have to change his username if he got well by detoxing.

No, I have just had clients who have spent £XXX's on this crap, expecting a quick fix, when they could have spent half that on proper food.

It infuriates me, along with Herbalife and their "Personal Wellness Coaches"

Don't start me off on this.

A guy I know became one of their 'coaches' a few months back. Facebook was suddenly overloaded with his bullst posts about weight loss, detox diets, nutrition in a can bks.

Completely glossing over the fact that when he started doing all this ste, he also began a heavy gym routine with a PT. Of course, it was all thanks to 'Herbaste' rolleyes

Promptly deleted the tt...

Undercooked chicken or a several day old takeaway is a pretty good way to cleanse the body. Or at least to purge your system biggrin

An old school friend is often on about this kind of crap on FB too. Very few people seem to understand the difference between a dietician (regulated) and a nutritionist (Dr Lillian McKeath).

Perhaps it's time to start marketing the Picolax diet?

I once lost two stone in 10 days on the 'Picking up Giardia in a Venezuelan Rainforest' diet.

Amazingly effective.

Chelation is a medical version of detox that actually works, but you only use it if you have acute heavy metal poisoning as it's not without side effects. All these quack detox things are bunkum.
