Anyone got any experience of this? I've been experiencing some discomfort to my hip for the last couple of weeks, it's quite painful when I press it in or lie on it. Done a quick google of my symptoms and it sounds like bursitis. I train at the gym about 5 times a week and have a physical job.
Any advice appreciated.

Well it could be Trochanteric Bursitis, which is the bony protuberance at the top of the thigh bone, or it could just be damage to muscles & or tendons in that area.
Try an ice pack & or anti inflammatory pain killers like Ibuprofen. If it persists I believe the is an injection you can have for it.

Had a similar problem and mine turned out not to be trochanteric bursitis in the end which explained why it did not respond to the initial painkillers, physio or subsequent corticosteroid injections ........too long to explain what it actually was, and still is, but a complication of having a hip replacement.
I was glad I asked for a second opinion as the initial hospital were going to do a bursa excision for infection, which after numerous tests, scans, Xrays, blood tests etc the 2nd hospital ruled out totally.
Is there a lump or redness evident? Is the area warm? If so this may be a sign of bursa infection.
Hopefully yours will settle down after a few Ibroprufen and ice packs.... good luck and keep us updated

Given what you describe and the fact that you train 5 times a week it would seem fairly likely you have developed trochanteric bursitis.
I am unsure what training you do as this may be a factor.
As a general rule you should avoid anything that causes pain for initially two weeks ideally until the pain completely settles.
For example if you find it is only painful with running but other cardio - bike or rowing machine are pain free continue these.
If not settling try to see someone to clinically confirm the diagnosis - the good news is most people settle with rest and ultrasound guided injections are generally not required.
Hope this is of help.

I am struggling with this at the moment and any opinions would be great to hear based on the following.
I developed trochenteric bursitis about 2 years ago after a shunt in the Radical at Snetterton. That's the thinking anyway. it was complicated by coinciding with a ruptured bakers cyst in my knee of the same leg.
Aft 12 months I eventually had an op on my knee and an ultrasound guided injection into my hip. That was last December. About 12 weeks ago my hip started to hurt and it's been getting worse and worse since then. The pain is simply debilitating after standing for about 90seconds or walking 20 yards and that is despite being on pain relief comprising Duloxetine, Tramadol, Paracetamol , Pregablin and now morphine.
I am not exaggerating the level of pain. Tried walking with crutches this afternoon and just the weight of my leg hanging there is enough to be very painful.
Everything I read about this TB suggests that the pain shouldn't be this bad. I had full spine, hips and legs MRI last time and they concluded it wasn't skeletal. I have an appointment to see the same consultant, but not until end of January. That's a long while feeling like I do.
Any ideas, observations or questions?

Sorry to hear this... I am in a very similar position but probably a couple of years ahead of you and still struggling with it. After my previous health postings being "mocked" to by a troll in another unrelated PH thread I'm not happy to post my issues on here again, but happy to discuss via pm or email if I can help in any way.
Hope you get sorted.

The frustration I am feeling is not really having a sense of understanding of the problem. I am slightly better today in terms of moving about, but only because the modified release morphine is kicking in.
Look forward to getting your mail.

A few months ago I suffered with this for about a month. At first I thought it could be a trapped nerve, but as it progressed to the point where almost every turn I made when sleeping sent a shooting pain in my hip it was time to consult my GP.
At first, the GP did quick check to find any ligament or tendon damage, and once the checks had been given the all clear and a quick discussion, the GP advised me of taking anti-inflammatory tablets (ibuprofen).
10 days of Nurofen and the problem has been resolved and not returned since
