Having spend years playing rugby at a decent level my progression from the game was to train the best way I knew how. The crossfit movement is massive in the US and growing here in the UK. People give me the odd strange look in the gym when I'm chucking heavy weights around.

Just wondered if anyone else works out following the crossfit principles. Would be good to hear about different workouts ect

I suspect thread thread won't go as expected. Those that do it love it and it takes over their life and those that don't hate it and will regale you with stories of injuries and near death experiences.

I don't do it, but have briefly been a member of a Crossfit gym, however several of my relatives have been totally assimilated and compete in the World finals most years. They absolutely love it and it's taken over their lives.

To get the real benefits you need to join an actual Crossfit Gym, to me the difference is the social aspect of the whole movement. They are a very sociable bunch, much more than any other gym I've been a member of - there is a real sense of community. I can see why it's become so popular and I was certainly very impressed. However, it seems to be an all or nothing affair - I do lots of other sports and couldn't commit the level of time to it to make it worthwhile, hence why I'm no longer a member.

Most on here will tell you it's rubbish, and you'd be better off doing something else and why not specialise in one thing or another. Jack of all trades/it's dangerous/ yada yada... (usually based on nothing other than Internet memes and youtube fail videos)

I like it, and think it can only be a good thing, particularly as a gateway for Olympic lifting. A bit too expensive for me though.... there's a 'box' next to my gym, they all seem to be having fun, and I like to try out some of the wod's now and then for something a bit different.

A couple of my mates do it and I'm tempted to get involved to replace playing football once the season has finished in about a month to keep me fit during the summer. Is crossfit mainly weights based? Would I be better doing some other training during the off season? I also need to keep fit as I'm doing a Tough Mudder in August!

I like crossfit and have tried a few of their WOD's. All my training is circuit based with a 32kg kettlebell + weights and cardio.

Here is the last thread with differing opinions biggrin

I did it for over a year and it certainly teaches how to use weights and your body correctly. Comaradary pushes you harder. Hiatus hernia means cant do any core work for me. But it was great for me.
