unexplained weight loss...GERD?
Discussion
About Christmas time had bad backache for about a week tied in with stomach feeling a bit iffy unless id just eaten. Happened again in Jan and then came back at end of last week too. Ive weighed myself and ive lost about 9lbs unintentionally since Jan. Had a series of bliod tests last month and it came back with low platelets but nothing else. Doc is treating me for GERD or in simple terms, acid reflux. Dont get heartburn or indigestion but wondered if anyone had experienced similar?
No I havent. My mother has an underactive thyroid but is stable with her weight. Would it suddenly lead to weight loss? Im a bit worried its something else to be honest, as im usually so stable with my weight. The weights that I am currently is the lightest ive been as an adult. Im 32.
Ive been put on 30mg Lansoprazole which treats GERD ( which after reading about I dont think I have the symptoms) ulcers and helicobactor. I havent been tested specifcally for it. I wouldnt say im in any pain, more discomfort. Its not affecting my apetite but the weight loss is worrying/frightening me. The thing I need to stop doing is googling it!

I'll tell you this which will hopefully put your mind at rest. I suffered terribly from a lump in the throat sensation for over a year. I tested positive for helicobacter and had numerous tests done for other causes. Worried, I googled it which made me worry more - whether it's a spot on your backside or a growth on your head, google will always tell you it's fatal - don't waste your time.If you have the money, ask to be referred privately and you could well have your answer in a couple of weeks. If not, get back to your doctor and explain that you a re worried sick and need answers with regard to the weight loss. If the doctor thought your weight loss was anything sinister then he or she would act quickly but regardless, I'd go back to your gp for peace of mind.
Good luck.
Helicobactor pylori will make you lose more weight than that, you'll also be reduced to drinking milk and eating ice cream as they'll be some of the only things you can have that won't cause havoc.
There will be a hole in you stomach lining and any food that's spicy, fried, processed will generate acid which will go thru the hole in the membrane and cripple you.
At the start if the year I ended up in hospital with this and lost over 1.5 stone in a fortnight I was proper f
ked.
You can get buscopan over the counter which will stop stomach cramps and I was also on omeprazole (prescribed ) which reduced stomach acid. Having this still won't let you eat what you like you'll be very fragile for a good few weeks.
