Hi all. My dad has told me tonight that he has to see the GP asap regarding his prostate.

He had bowel cancer about 3 years ago and had a big op to remove a section. At the follow up clinic last week he mentioned he sometimes couldn't wee. They did a PSA test? The result of this is elevated at 7.9 and the GP has received the results and want to see him.

Anyone know what this means? Is it likely his cancer has come back in his prostate? Just as we were hoping this was all behind us frown

A lot of things can cause a raised PSA level.
UTI, Inflammation of prostate, after jerking off.. you get the idea.
Of course, one of the causes is prostate cancer.
Since your dad has symptoms of obstruction, it is not unreasonable to suggest that your dad may have an enlarged prostate. Still, prostates are commonly enlarged without being cancerous.
I am not familiar with bowel cancer spreading to prostate, someone may correct me if I am wrong. But in all honesty, I think your dad's problem now is not related his bowel.

What this means to your dad: Your GP will have a quick chat with him, a finger up the bum to feel the prostate. Then either:

1) watch and wait to see the trend of PSA and symptoms.
2) More likely, referral to urology and a biopsy to definitively see what your dad is dealing with.
