Ear Infection AAGGHH!

Hi guys, so I've had an ear infection for a week. Its a pretty bad one my ear canal feels really swollen and my jaw hurts on the side the ears on. I've been to the doctors and she gave me these drops but they haven't made a huge difference to be honest. I've been on them since thursday, its now Monday. I'm starting to worry and get very annoyed.
Any thoughts ?

As someone who has suffered the same in the past - for a proper ear infection which is being as nasty as you describe - you'll really require some decent antibiotics!
Get back on the phone first thing Tuesday morning, and get another same-day appointment with either your GP, or any other GP at your surgery - or failing that, ask for a same-day appointment with your surgery's nurse practitioner if they have one.
Meantime, for relief, treat it every four hours or so with oral analgaesics / anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen, plus poke a cotton bud soaked in TCP inside as far as is comfortable...

If it is otitis externa - inflammation of the canal - then drops (antibiotics with steroid) are standard first approach. But if the ear canal is very swollen the drops don't get in properly and you need a wick inserting (a bit like a tiny hollow tampon). Oral antibiotics reserved for severe cases / those not responding to drops.
If you call the on-call service today and explain the situation I am sure they will be happy to prescribe antibiotics / review you re a wick. If it is that painful after this time it warrants out of hours advice. Beats the verrucas and two days constipation that I have been called to treat as emergencies ;-)

I get ear infections; however haven't had one for a while but then I'll get a really bad one it will clear up and I'll get another soon after then it'll be many months before I get one again, currently I've not had one for about 6m.
Oral antibiotics don't work for me but an antibiotic spray does, I've always been prescribed this and it's fantastic:
The only problem is sitting with your head cocked to one side for 5 or so minutes so it doesn't run out of the ear.

Mine are like a tiny bottle with a yellow teat on the end. Absolute f
king bag of ste, I get more on my face and hair than my ear unless I cram it in. which hurts. I bought some of that nurofen stuff and it has made a huge difference, I'm still almost deaf in the infected ear and if I move it sounds like I've got a sticky liquid glugging in my ear. Tbh nurofen is better than the drops there's no pain now at all just a gluggy sound which is quite amusing to be honest.

Went to Boots & found Earex Advance Ear Drops, no precription needed, just off the shelf. They cleared the problem in a couple of days, actually felt better after the first use.

I was given some of those the other month when I had an ear blockage but they did nothing.

Started out as temporary deafness, but by Sunday was full blown ear agony.
Just feels full of water, or wax. Then the middle ear must have swollen.
After a couple of paracetamol and chucking some warm olive oil in there it seems to be settling down, although how much difference the pills / oil have made I don't know - probably not a lot. Probably just settling down on its own.

I had similar in the past, it got to the point at night where I felt like smashing my head against the wall 
Doctor was useless, she rammed a light down my ear and said nothing was wrong
only solution I found was wax loosening ear drops and sleeping with my ear pressed to a hot water bottle.
