Weird neuro stuff
Discussion
I wonder if any of you can make sense out of these strange symptoms.....
For the past 5 years or so I have had episodes of strange neuro things going on. They will typically start with mild chest pains - not related to exercise or anything else - not really that scary in themselves. That is then followed by episodes of brain fog - fuzzed up cognitive sensations that can last for a few hours at a time, and then lift. Along side that, I can get a dry mouth that comes on from nowhere - not sated from drinking water - again lasting a few hours at a time. Additionally I get times when my heart rate drops down and I feel pretty ropy - I'm usually resting heart rate of 65 or so but this goes to late 40's. Doesn't last, but returns. And finally for now, sometimes get random numb patches on toes. I used to get heat/ itching on my lower shins but that seems to have stopped now.
These episodes last about 6-8 weeks and whilst they don't stop me doing my stuff or working, they are a distraction, and they do seem now to return every 6 months or so.
Still with me? I've seen a GP about some of these things in isolation. Ticker is fine (high blood pressure but I'm fine on medication). Brain tests suggest no formal neuro stuff like MS (which none of this is typical of anyway). I think they think I'm a hypochondriac. Neurologist suggested silent migraines but as I've never suffered from headaches before except after a session, it just doesn't seem right.
The only thing I can think of is that I can be prone to stress - and this might be a neuro reaction to this - when I was younger I could come out with an attack of boils as a stress reaction. This is preferable!!!
Anyone with any ideas? Pull myself together??!!

Have you had your hormones tested? Testosterone, thyroid T4/T3, IGF-1 would be a good start, plus your sodium.
A lot of those symptoms could be caused by dodgy hormone levels - mine have been all over the place since pituitary surgery last summer, and hormones can play all sorts of havoc.

Hi it's the OP here. Still alive! I never really got to the bottom of it all, so I'm not sure I can be of much help. I saw a consultant later in 2014 and he came up with the 'silent migraine' diagnosis which seemed like code for 'we haven't a clue and can't find anything'.
It still comes back about every 9 months, mainly chest pains, but a lot less, but that might be as I'm used to it and not as worried.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was hormone related but the only one I had tested was thyroid, which was fine.
If you get any diagnosis I'm all ears.
