pedometers / running aps
Discussion
what do you use?
started running again recently and settled on nike shoes, so i have the option of fitting the nike+ sensor.
i'd due to go away for 6wks with work shortly and i intend to use it as an opportunity to step up my fitness [being cycling/swimming/playing football and lost 8kg since xmas but hit a plateau]. to keep me motivated i am looking for a decent pedometer and running app.
the only phone i have is a works blackberry so any app would have to be compatible with an older ipod touch. however i was thinking of getting a newer one, which seem to come with the nike+ app and motion sensor preinstalled.
do these have gps? i would like to be able to view my routes. is the shoes sensor more accurate than the inbuilt one in an ipod? what other systems are available?
TIA

I've been using Runkeeper on my iphone - for me it seems the most usable with just plenty of features to keep my interest. I like how one app can do so many activities. I run, and cycle on and off road, and it seems pretty good at tracking them. The maps are usually pretty accurate, and the timing and GPS are usually spot on, with the exception of the odd GPS wobble (it said I hit 52mph on my last cycle commute to work - I wish!)
It also allows you to choose what voice prompts you receive, whether you want music playing and which playlist, switchable autopause when you stop, and you can connect to friends and track their activities - I find this really motivation, as when I see that one of them has been out training, I feel like I have to do the same (and beat them!) :-)
I believe it can connect to a Bluetooth-enabled HRM chest strap for more accurate calorie tracking but I haven't tried that yet, it's on the cards though.
