For some months now I've been suffering from stabbing pain in my right knee. It is fine walking and running, but feels like someone is jabbing a knife into it if bent fully or kneeling. There feels like a small lump in the fleshy part just under the kneecap.

Could this be ligament damage of some kind? I wondered about an appointment at the GP but my experience of them is not great and would sooner go straight to an expert.

GP
or specialist physio
or pick a different GP

I'm afraid they are your only routes

I guess you're right - and thanks. I'll make an appointment with my GP. Just as well it's not that urgent.

Hi had this or at least similar a couple of months back, thread here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Basically I went to an osteopath who gave me some treatment for mal tracking and imbalance due to a tight Illio-Tibial band on the outside of my knee. He actually gave up on me after three sessions as there was no improvement and told me to see my GP. It has since eased by itself without further treatment.

Hope this helps, good luck getting sorted!

MondyJim,

Thanks for the link. That is really very interesting and sounds very similar to what I am suffering. I think I'll try a physio first and move on from there. I thought it might be connected to some recent stints on the rowing machine, but I do run two or three times a week and suspect this may be the cause.
