Horsefly bites - how can I make it less irritating?

Been bitten by a horsefly right on my lip which is seriously inflamed and is putting pressure on my teeth giving me lots of grief. Anyone had one before and know how to make it less irritating/painful?

Hydrocortison cream or Sudocream perhaps?

Given how much horsefly bites on my legs have swelled in the past, I'd take an antihistamine now and seriously consider GP/walk-in clinic or similar to get it seen fairly sharpish in case it swells to the point where eating and drinking gets really tough. (Also had a mosquito bite swell my eye shut for 5 days once. That sucked.)

Thanks for the suggestions but I was too late and now it's infected and I'm eating and drinking through a straw while laying in bed chugging down antibiotics.

How on earth did you not notice the bd thing biting you?!

Thanks for the kind words. That's the thing - I have no idea when it bit me. I went to the doctors today and he said he's never seen an infected bite this bad for a long time, just my luck

I had a horsefly bite me on each ankle, which then went a bit mental. I went to the chemist feeling a bit girly asking for cream for a bite but they told me to go to the GP ASAP.

I did and the GP decided the best way to test whether they were infected or not was to squeeze them.

Luckily she survived and was able to give me anti-biotics and it cleared up very quickly after that.

Nothing else helped really.



Note that I have hair-less feet and hairy legs, the photo looks the opposite. Hobbit jokes wore thin very quickly.

Bitten on both ankles? That's some bad luck you have.

So far I've found that eating Weetabix helps sooth the burning sensation, don't ask why. Seriously need sleep though, I've only had about 4 hours the whole weekend.

I hate horseflies. They are bds.
