Great North Swim 2014

Anyone doing it ?

I'm entered into a mile event on Saturday, but have never done any open water swimming before, so would welcome any tips.

Hang back a bit at the start of the wave, it can be congested at the ramp as folks try to get away.
Where two hats it is cold
Use the acclimatisation bit to, well, acclimatise...
Hire wet suit or your own? Stick some anti chaff stuff round your neck to avoid scuffing!
Can be choppy so you may have to alter your head position to breathe...
Check your sighting every few strokes as you may not swim straight, there is no line on the bottom to sight from :-)
