Anyone here had a tracheostomy?

I had a tracheostomy in 2006 after a serious car crash and all has been well most of the time. However over the last year or so I keep having to clear my throat and it feels like it's in the same area as the tracheostomy. Has anyone experienced this? It feels like phlegm builds up there or something. Any clues?

See a doc. It might be unrelated and something dodgy.

Not an expert but you may have some scar tissue inside your windpipe

Go and see a real doc ( ie a GP) and ask for an ENT referral

May well be something relatively minor and easy to fix (whether related to your accident or not).

FWIW, your symptoms sound quite like something I had for a few years. GP had no idea but ENT man had a quick look (you'll be glad those camera tubes are small nowadays!) and found a cyst on my vocal chord. Quick op, with a biopsy to make sure nothing nastier, and job jobbed.
