I find it very difficult to deal with people that I find are annoying.
I wonder if I should be more tolerant and then I think,no,he is a prat don't beat yourself up over it.
I am working with a lad in his mid twenties who has done everything been everywhere, his drill is better then mine he knows a better way of doing something,he talks like he has been doing the job for 100 years,he wanted to do something a different way this week,I just told him that I had done the installation on the other three floors this way and it had been passed by the engineer, architect, site agent and foreman so why did he think it needed changing.
I am going to try to be more assertive from now on.

I've spent 21 years working offshore. If you think a couple of hours a day working with a know all f***wit is bad, try 12 hours a day, 7 a week, for five week stretch. Aggggghhhhhh..........

Especially if he happens to be your shift leader/boss, who also does your annual appraisals and salary reviews..... boxedin

This.

Question is, does he intimidate you? Can you just say things in a certain way that he knows not to keep pushing?

He does not intimidate me in the slightest,I pity him.
He decided today to do something his way (yet again) and wasted half a day and about £200 worth of gear when I took one look at it and said "that is not the same as all the rest,do it again".
Yes but I thought...? "no,dont do any thinking, all the thinking and discussing has been done, just copy what has been done on the other floors".
They will only put up with so much then he will be replaced.
