Hernia Op - what type of hospital?

I’m 99% sure I have a double hernia.
Been to the Doc and she’s warned me the NHS rarely operate these days, until it’s pretty much an emergency. I can’t afford private, but the Doc has put my case to the powers that be, and I’ve received appointment request forms. Section 3 of these forms, lets me choose a Hospital to start the consolation process. There’s a list of 2 NHS hospitals and 2 private, but the Doc told me all 4 would be under the NHS. Which hospital should I go for? Private or NHS, or does it not make any odds?

Assuming youre not paying then if you get the private ticket it will be a consultant operating
In the NHS you may well get a trainee who could be anything from a newly qualified drone to someone about to get a consultant job
If it was a major op though Id avoid the private hospital like the plague, for a day case hernia its a no brainer
I am going through the same thing with an op.
Basically the consultant does NHS and private but the NHS will also pay for peopel to have the op in the private hospital to offload people - so I am seeing him in the private hospital but seeing him at the BMI hospital. Waiting tiem is still roughly the same though.

Can you check the success rate for the operation in each hospital - this would be the main determining thing on your choice I would have thought
I had hernia repair in private hospital on NHS a couple of years ago. Would've been same surgeon either way. Deciding factor for me was waiting time; 6-12 weeks at NHS hospital, 7 days private.

SimplesIf you have a problem after a big operation, or even a small/medium one which is a lot less likely, in a private hospital there will be one junior doctor on duty of varying competence reporting to your consultant who is off site and an expert in only their own field
In an NHS hospital there are a number of junior and middle grade doctors on site from several different specialities carrying most skills, and probably even some consultants too, every minute of every hour of every day
I know in which environment Id rather have a heart attack or major post op haemorrhage at 3AM on a Wednesday morning.................................
