Mirena users - feedback please

My wife is onto her second (they last 5 years) and, so far as I know, hasn't had any issues like that. Her first period after having the first one fitted was a bit nasty but only in the context of having a bad period - certainly no joint pain or anything beyond a particularly painful, heavy period. Beyond that, it just sits there doing its thing and her periods in general are lighter and shorter than normal.
